Any ideas here?

Depends on what you value. My Hyundai is a better value for the money than a Lexus...in my opinion. Others have other ideas, and they are valid for them.

I think Dell is a better value, but I change PPCs very frequently, so longevity isn't a major concern. I have owned HP PPCs as well and they are very well built. I think a couple of my Jornada's are still in service somewhere. On the other hand, my and my wife's X50vs are both still in daily use. Hers more than mine, but still running strong. Both were purchased the day they were put on sale.

I'd say get the one that meets your needs.

Dell is very reasonably priced - especially on those 20% off days. I'd say you get more bang for buck from them if you purchased an X51v.

HP has a PPC phone model. Dell does not.

Dell has more powerful high-end devices than HP.

HP has a more compact low end model than Dell.

What's more important to you?

The hx4700? ;)

If money is not a problem, I'd go with the hx4700 first if screen quality is important. Then with the x51v.

The hx4700? ;)

If you can still find one, that is. Unfortunately, some places have stopped selling it after HP discontinued it. :( Best option would be eBay.

I was referring to stuff that is currently in production.

Besides, while the screen might be better the X51v has twice the ROM so the original statement still stands. :)

Definately go for Dell. Currently, HP doesn't even have a VGA device. You can get x51v for at least $100-200 cheaper than HP's high end QVGA device.

If you want a PPC Phone, however, it will be a different story.

While, having both devices I really know the x51v is much superior to the hx4700 as far as WM5 support, gaming, 2700G and built-in storage size are concerned, for many tasks the hx4700 is still much better suited. It's absolutely unbeatable in, say, bedtime (where the brightness of the minimal backlight is of high importance) Web browsing in Landscape (the Landscape mode of the x50v/x51v screen is not the best because of the polarization uvenness (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=578&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1), unlike with the hx4700) - not just because of the bigger screen. The same stands for other tasks where screen quality is of high importance.

Of the two devices, I only use the hx4700 when it comes to Web browsing or photowallet (dogophoto watching) (albeit I prefer the bright, beautiful, 1600*1200 UXGA screen of my Thinkpad a31p to the hx4700 at this when I also have it with me).

(And, did I mention it has much better battery life?)

X51v... hands down... but then again, I'm biased as I am obessed with my X51v... lots of great support sites out there that make over coming the X51v's shortcomings a piece of cake!
