I am fairly knowledgeable about various GPS hardware and generally favor a stand-alone GPS receiver rather than a GPS-enabled PPC.

Question: Does anyone out there know if there exists a GPS receiver coupled with a laser range-finder (say line of sight range) in which the laser ranging data can be used to give/update the GPS coordinates of the target, together with the receiver's GPS position. Would generally expect a flat (2-D) range of 2 to 3 miles, more with binocular/telescopic optics, and range output in both British Engineering Units and Metric Units. With relecting mirrors, the device could also calculate areas and topographic altitudes. Device might also have maritime (on the water) applications. In warfare and hunting, the device could be used for target acquisition and gun-laying.
