The field tests, which involved 62 simultaneous calls, were conducted over CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. A in one sector within a single 1.25 MHz channel - in a fully mobile configuration. The test network demonstrated capacity gains approximately 30 times greater than mobile analog voice and results from a fully loaded commercial network could be somewhat lower."</i><br /><br />This is a significant step in wireless service -- not only does it enable seamless simultaneous data and voice communication, which we don't currently have, it also reduces the bandwidth requirement of wireless terminals, enabling more voice calls (or data) to be carried on a wireless network. Combine this with the fact of increased VoIP interest on Windows Mobile devices, and you have a not-so-distant future vision of seamless VoIP for local calls and Internet calls. Of course, it's up to the carriers to make this happen, so maybe that future <i>is</i> distant. :?
