All along we kept on saying that they would be releasing a update that could be self deployed… Well it’s here now... If you have a Telus based 6700 – go out and get the update!"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/salgado-20060613-teluslogo.gif" /><br /><br />Not to take away from the spotlight of our readers with the Telus Mobility/UTStarcom 6700 Pocket PC Phone, but it's in many people's opinion that Verizon Wireless has officially become either the most inefficient and/or the least considerate wireless carrier by providing neither a decent timeframe or response to the 6700 AKU2 upgrade that every other carrier has already provided for their version of the HTC Apache. This can certainly be a continuation from my previous article, "<a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?topic_id=49165">Forever Waiting for a Firmware Update?</a>" where I was told by technicians at UTStarcom that Verizon has totally dropped the ball on this one. Again, it's my feeling that all their priority is on acquiring new contracts and sales for the Treo 700w and the Motorola Q, and the XV6700 is probably like their redheaded stepchild (no offense to redheads or stepchildren ;)). Well, if you're lucky enough to have a caring or competent wireless carrier, you can pick up your flavor of the firmware update on <a href="http://www.utstar.com/pcd/Downloads.aspx">UTStarcom's site</a>, or if you want to get it from Telus, it's right <a href="http://www.telusmobility.com/on/business_solutions/utstarcom_6700_upgrade.shtml">here</a>.

I had been under the impression that WM5 was supposed to get rid o wireless carrier roadblocks to updates. They almost always make it significantly more difficult to make software upgrades and it is often the little bits of software that they insist upon adding to devices that require the upgrade in the first place.

T-Mobile and HP with the 6315
Verizon with some PPC phone about 2 years ago
Verizon and Samsung's i730
T-Mobile and the current MDA
Cingular and the 8125
Cingular and the 6515
Verizon again with the 6700

...they just don't get it. Removing them from the process would extremely helpful.

i Upgraded my apache 2 days ago. Honestly for my use i dont see a real difference. I have been getting my email pushed out to me from the VISTO inbox app since day 1.

but all the same its nice to have the newr firmware... the communication manager looks much sexier now for example ;)
