<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72891' target='_blank'>http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/show...ead.php?t=72891</a><br /><br /></div>The brains at PDAPhoneHome.com have already put together an unofficial, unsupported version of a working Windows Mobile 5 upgrade for the Samsung i730 from Verizon Wireless for <a href="http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73071">quite some time now</a>. However, in a similar fashion to unlocking the right combination on a cryptex "Da Vinci Code"-style, another individual has managed to finagle a live download link on Verizon's website that contains an official Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for the i730. While Verizon Wireless has not officially released it or mentioned it (and rumors had it that it wasn't even going to be released), the <a href="http://download.vzwshop.com/vzw/samsungos/Samsung_i730_WM5_Upgrade.exe">download link</a> is there, nevertheless.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/salgado-i730wm5.jpg" /><br /><br />While the leaked, unofficial version and the leaked, official version may be very similar, the official version is reported to have a newer CDMA radio stack. That may sound like a good thing, but with Verizon's "death touch" on the official version, tethering the Internet connection to a PC has been disabled. <b>Again, I'll remind you that both versions are unofficial, and therefore likely to be unsupported by Verizon Wireless or Samsung, and you can 'brick' your device in the process.</b> You can read more on the <a href="http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=169">various i730 threads at PDAPhoneHome.com</a>.

Just clicked it. It's a 32MB self-extracting executable cruising at 255KB/sec onto my desktop.

The update to Windows Mobile 5 worked flawless. Of course the new update disables DUN over USB, BUT theres a work around by downgrading the phone portion antenna rom, while maintaining the WM5.

well now that verizon has this out in the wild, they might as well go ahead and officially release it. Mainly becuase a lot of people will get their hands on it, it will work just fine, and verizon will look stupid for not releasing/supporting it.

has all the information on how to downgrade the radio.

I've upgraded to WM5 with the unofficial-official release, then downgraded to the unofficial-unofficial relase 8O and now my i730 is running WM5 with tethering working. WM5 will show a cool screen with upstream/downstream/speed information while you are tethering.

Does windows mobile 5.0, have any software with it? Given that we got Picsel browser, sprite backup, and voicesignal preloaded at purchase, does all of this come with the new update or is it all lost?
