Here we go again. I am just wondering how quick it will be before the we start seeing posts about how this version of the ROM is just as bad as the WM5 upgrade.

not sure what HP ProtectTools is, but it seems so problematic that it is probably best to disable if possible. I really hate this kind of third party software that seems more geared towards keeping the OEM's name splashed in front of the user rather than doing anything useful. they should spend more time on device stability and less on these garbage utilities.

Is this mean that HP will release further updates for its siblings, HX4700 series?

Hmm, that's a very difficult question to answer. One of the reasons why I think HP released a set of updates for the hx2000 series is because it's still a current model. The hx2110/2410/2750 are not dedicated Windows Mobile 5.0 devices (though, upgradeable), whereas the hx2190/2490/2790 are dedicated Windows Mobile 5.0 devices (and based on similar hardware). If HP is going to release a set of updates for the new hx2000 series, they may as well release it for the old hx2000 series, right?
Now that the hx4700 has been discontinued (or at least, we think it has), and there isn't a dedicated Windows Mobile 5.0 version of the hx4700 like the upgraded hx2190/2490/2790, HP might not channel their efforts into releasing a set of firmware updates for the device. Of course, we'll only know the answer with time.

And they keep silence about this huh....

Interesting. I don't think I've had any of the problems with my hx2755 that these patches address. Of course, I used WM5 for only about two weeks, since it made my device very sluggish (and I didn't much care for the "improvements"). If these patches make WM5 more tolerable speed-wise, and/or fixed the fingerprint scaner for PPC2003SE, then I'd be happy.
Gee, wouldn't it be nice if they told what the patch actually does!?! I mean really, saying only that it "replaces a section of the original system files" just doesn't cut it. If it eats up 5 MB, why fix it if you don't need it??

I tried the update and guess what? I have the same problem where the unit locks up and would not turn on when I leave my Sandisk Ultra II SD 1.0 GB card in the unit. I'm so disappointed

I don't think it eats up 5MB. It should replace 5MB. The difference in ROM storage available after the update should be nothing or a negligible amount.

Well, I am really stuck with this one. After almost thinking about taking a 2 hour drive to the Circuit City where I bought my hx2755, I finally managed to get ActiveSync to work straight again. Well, I wanted to try to get my programs and such reinstalled and fixed correctly before I went to bed and so, I installed the new firmware update. It has now been installed and is currently preventing me from synchronising with my desktop!!!!! When I do try to sync it pops up some message stating that I must correct my Exchange Server password. I HAVE NEVER USED EXCHANGE SERVER!!!! Would someone plz tell me how to fix this before I have to start dialing HP and hope they dont make me go completely psycho. God, I just can't wait until I can get my hand on the next hx2795 unit. It'll put me in debt for sure, but at least it will work, I hope.
Help me soon, please.

Have you tried hard resetting your device, and deleting and re-creating your ActiveSync partnership - just to purge any old or erroneous settings?

Yeah, I finally got it to work. Now I just have to figure out what the hecks wrong with spb weather. WM5 is beginning to become more of a pain in the rear than Win 95 SE.

What issues are you having with Spb Weather? If it's a compatibility issue, ensure you're running the latest version (v1.5), available from here: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/?en

It's not a compatability issue. I have the most recent version. Unfortunately, the most recent version does nothing but take up today space and memory space. It does absolutley nothing since it connects to absolutely nothing. I have no way of getting weather information for anything in the US. And the only place that I could find that carried/listed any templates won't let me access or download the settings. So I am a bit perplexed as to why the current version was released. If anyone knows a solution, besides anything to do with PDAGold, then please tell me. I'm just trying to get stuff to work on my PPC now that it's running and connecting correctly.

Does Spb Weather not automatically install the GisMeteo.ru, Intellicast, and the Weather.com templates? If not, then I'm confused as to why Spb withdrew these from the installation package.
Have you checked out the bundle of templates available at SpbDN.com?

If all else fails, shoot me an e-mail (select Darius from the Contact (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/contact.php) page), and I'll send you the Weather.com template, which is probably the best one to use for the US.

The only one I have on mine is that one that starts with a G. I don't remember it because I'm half asleep. And about SpbDN, most of those links that I tried shot me back to PDAGold, which leaves me in the same situation. It may be that my installation got messed up on the computer, so I could try that as well. Go ahead and send me the Weather.com template so I can install it later today.
Thanks,
Johnston

Try soft-resetting, then immediately uninstalling Spb Weather, then re-installing it.
Go ahead and send me the Weather.com template so I can install it later today.
I'll need you to send me a quick message via the contact page (see above), so that I can get a valid e-mail address off you. Otherwise, you're welcome to post it here, if you don't mind others seeing it.
