I don't believe you can sync PIM information with Outlook Express - you need to use the full Outlook version that comes with the phone.

hishamh is absolutely correct. PPCs do not sync with Outlook Express. At least not out of the box. If you don't want to use Outlook, there are options like Intellisync that will let you use Express.

SyncExpress (http://www.syncdata.it/syncexpress.html) is another solution that supports Outlook Express.

Indeed, I believe this is the most common solution -- although I haven't tried it -- and, of course, it's limited, since OE doesn't support Notes, Tasks, or Calendar.

Well, you must have Outlook for ActiveSync to sync those three types. ActiveSync does not support Microsoft Works, and I don't know of any third-party sync solutions that do. Why don't you just install Outlook on the machine from the supplied CD?

Outlook offers wizards to import accounts, email and settings from Outlook Express. So it shouldn't be too hard to bring existing data over. The only problem is Outlook may be overkill for your mom. Did you give SyncExpress a try?

If you want to do email directly on the Pocket PC, you need to set up your ISP's POP3 or IMAP account inside the Messaging/Inbox applet on the Pocket PC itself.
