GPS tracking with Pocket PC

Is it possible for a Pocket PC to have GPS navigation functions by simply installing an off-board navigation software and adding an external GPS receiver? I was thinking to download the Nav4All off-board navigation software, which is originally designed for cell phones, and installed on my Pocket PC, yet I'm not so sure if it's gonna fit, I mean, I know even some cell phone models don't work properly after installation of Nav4All, such as Nokia N70, but is it okay at least in theory, that Nav4All can also help Pocket PC to pinpoint the holder's location?

Yes, that would work. I'm not sure Nav4All is the best choice, since it's Java and there are many native GPS nav programs which are better. However, you're correct that with software and a GPS receiver, any Pocket PC has GPS navigation.

Windows Mobile devices don't run Java natively, and while it is possible to get a Windows Mobile JVM, it won't support all Java functions. As ADBrown suggests, better to get a program designed for WM. And yes, it's quite easy to turn any WM device into a navigation device with an external receiver.

I have an Audiovox 6700. I'd like to turn it into a handheld GPS... What would you suggest I buy - hardware and software.

You'd be much better off using something that utilizes more established mapping companies, such as Tele Atlas. You will more than likely have much better luck with thier maps than those from a lesser company.
