I have a Dopod and everything works good but I can't connect to my unprotected home wireless network. I get the message "Cannot connect with the current connection settings..." etc. I tried everything I can think of. Can anybody help?

Welcome to Pocket PC Thoughts.

Perhaps you could start with a more detailed post describing your problems - for example:

• What have you tried to get it working?
• What is your current home setup, with regard to routers, computers, etc.
• Have you previously configured your Pocket PC with any specific network settings?

With that, we might be able to assist you better.

I have the Linksys WRT54GX4 router with two laptops and a Squeezebox connected. I don't run security because I couldn't get the squeezebox to connect when either WEP or WPA was turned on.

The Dopod picks up the signal but whenever I try to connect, for example through IE, I get the Can't Connect To The Network message. Under the wireless LAN section of settings, sometimes it shows that the device is connected but the IP address field only has zeros in it. It doesn't allow one to manually insert an IP address and selecting Renew IP doesn't help. It doeas show the MAC Address.

I tried deleting and resetting up a network, tried to configure network adapters etc but nothing has been successful so far. Thanks in advance for any ideas you can provide.

The invalid IP address is the problem. You spoke of a Wireless LAN section in Settings. Is this on your Pocket PC or the router? With most routers, you should be able to select whether IP addresses are assigned manually or automatically.

The wireless LAN settings are on the Pocket PC. I didn't mess with any of the router settings. But the wireless network works good. For example once in a while I connect with my work laptop without problem. The Dopod recognizes the network but I simply can't connect with it. Thanks.

A few things you'll want to check:

(1) Unless your network demands it, modify your router settings to have IP addresses assigned automatically.

(2) On your Pocket PC, tap Start > Settings > Connections > Network Cards, tap the relevant wireless adapter entry, then if the above holds true, select "Use server-assigned IP address". Otherwise, select "Use specific IP address" and manually enter the IP address of the Pocket PC as configured in the router settings.

(3) Again, on your Pocket PC, in the same Settings tab, select Connections, then Advanced, and Exceptions. Clear any URL exceptions you may have in there, unless of course, your network requires such rules to be established.
