But an increasing number of people worldwide are exchanging email and checking out websites from a smartphone or cellular-wireless handheld... In fact, accessing the Internet with a mobile phone actually outpaces wireless access from a notebook PC in many of areas of the world..."

This comes to me with little surprise, since most devices are getting more powerful, WAP and HTML browsers on these devices are more tolerant, data plans are getting relatively cheaper to acquire with their voice plans, and web developers are just starting to realize not everyone's on a full-fledged desktop PC to surf the web. I'll resort to remotely logging into my home desktop PC via LogMeIn in order to surf on pages that Internet Explorer Mobile just can't handle, and that need I found is becoming less and less. With internet really going mainstream, maybe I just won't feel so special anymore, now that the 13-year-old next to me on his T-Mobile Sidekick can start to surf just as well as I do on my Treo 700w. ;)

Most of the sites I regularly vist work just fine on my Magician via Skweezer. Sure, they look terrible but that's a price I'm happy to pay for mobility and speed.

Being able to surf on the run is no longer a nice-to-have. It's a necessity.

I hope I never see the day when surfing PERIOD (let alone mobile) is a necessity for me, rather than a luxery and convenience.
