View Full Version : 8125: Slow as Molasses

I have had the 8125 for a while now and really like everything about it except one thing. This device is so darn slow. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't think I've ever had a device this sluggish. A soft reset is like watching grass grow! Everything seems to take twice as long. Is it just me?

I would say that my 8125 is noticeably slower than my Axim X3, howerver, my battery life is amazing. I would much rather have a slightly slower 8125 with excellent battery life than a really fast one with poor battery life.

My Motorolla V551 had pathetic battery life with bluetooth on. I am amazed by how long the battery last on my 8125. At least for me it is a worthy tradeoff.

I also would not say that my 8125 is extremely slow. It is very functional with only a couple of programs running. After three or four, however, it really takes a nose dive.

I don't have that problem. My 8125 is fast - in fact, I think it is faster than the XV6700 I had for about 3 weeks but turned back in to Verizon due to poor coverage.

My battery life is also great. I don't think I expend more than 10% of the battery on a good day even with BT and GPRS on. I believe it is the best PDA phone I have owned (this is my third).

I would say you have to hack and modify your extended rom to clean up any cingular garbage.
Your coverage is supposed to be good, but it depends where you are.

These units should be purchased with COVERAGE more important than model.
I have T-mobile and my coverage sux, so i am lucky 2 have got the right unit for me , which was Sprint.
MY PPC6700 by Sprint is also better than Verizon because of newer rom and less hacking needed.

Sorry your unit will never be as fast as a 6700, BUT you can come very close by overclocking, with minimal battery drain!

GO HERE:

and register... you will be happy again, as long as you have good COVERAGE!

Not only did I go there, last night I took the plunge and flashed my 8125 with the ROM they have. WOW what a difference! It still isn't a speed demon but it sure runs great now!

Nomatter which HTC unit you have, slowdowns usually occur with loading programs and today plugins, so trying, deleting, and finally finding the right combination is the key.
I'm shure you'll be fine as long as you maintain it with apps like sktools, tweaks2k2 , and spb backup.

I'd like to speed up my Cingular 8125 but following this thread I am a little hesitatant in messing around with it. There was mention of ROM update does anyone have a link to it?

First thing I did when I got my 8125, even before establishing a partnership, was up update the ROM. It's no speed demon, but about the same as my X5 loaded down with stuff.

I will say, however, that the wired sync process is incredibly irritating. My X5 syncs in a few seconds, while the 8125 literally takes a couple minutes. Is this device-specific, or a general problem with WM5?

Have you tried ActiveSync 4.2? I notice that it is somewhat speedier.

I thought that 4.2 is beta? If so, I'm a bit leery about using it.

Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48587. Don't forget the CID unlock first, or you will not have a happy ending.

CID unlock? What is that?

My best recommendation is to read the instructional threads in the forum that I linked. I did the unlocking, but I'm not the person best qualified to walk you thru it.

Gosh after reading all the posts in the forum it appears its not 100% (little bugs). Did you have any issues after flashing? Did it go smoothly for you without "any" problems afterwards?

It worked fine for me, no issues.

would this ROM flash thing work on a verizon xv6700?

OK did all that I was supposed to do. A couple of questions.

1) Loaded programs left on the 8125 were Zoki A2DP, FdcSoft PPCContactsMgr & ammar Wireless Today Plugin - are these programs I need or can I delete them? What are they?
2) Battary icon is gone - how do I restore it?
3) Cingular logo in text - did they come up with a new logo to replace the text?
4) There was mention of new themes, ring tones and such - none found. Where are they?

Thanks

I noticed some improvement after flashing to 2.17 from the stock Cingular ROM.

Just to let you know, you can also overclock this thing. Stock, it's actually lower than 200 mhz. TCPMP reports 170 and Omapclock reports 180. Currently, I have mine oced to 267 in OmapClock 100% stable (OmapClock detects 250 and TCPMP 240). This made an even bigger difference than the ROM upgrade. The only problem is that the clocks are reset once the phone goes into standy. I believe there are registry tweaks to get around that, though I hadn't gotten to messing around with that yet. There are some ROMs here with OmapClock presets
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49281&highlight=cingular+812. I tried playing a 1000 kbps Family Guy clip - after overclocking it played with hardly any hickups.
