Hey folks,

I've done a bit of looking around, however, I'm curious.. is it possible to turn my old viewsonic V37 into a universal remote? I'm wondering, will the IR strength be enough for this? What software packages are available? I was actually thinking of developing my own for tinkering.

Anyways.. thanks in advance. If it turns out that it's not worth it, I'll likely just throw this on Ebay.

cheers.

Eric

If I recall correctly, the V37 supports consumer IR, so it'll work fine as a remote. An application such as VITO Remote (http://www.vitotechnology.com/en/products/remote.html) may help you out.

Try NoviiRemote Deluxe too.

There is also the TV remote controller 5.5 (http://www.pdawin.com/).
Not near as nice as the NoviRemote Deluxe (http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/deluxe/) but very powerful and much more reasonably priced.

just curious.. how have peoples experience been with the IR transmitters and the universal remote software on these devices? Am I going to have to sit like 2 feet from my tv/stereo setup in order to use this?

cheers.

If the V37 has CIR or Consumer Infrared, you're gold. On my iPaq 2215, which has CIR, I can be a good 12 feet away and have no problem using the remote.

Consider also, NEVO, as a remote program. Here's a link to a remote software roundup which also discusses CIR.

Nevo, unfortunately, isn't sold as a standalone application, which is a shame really. I agree though - if you can acquire a device with Nevo, you're in for a sweet ride.

I believe it appeared on PocketGear for a while before being pulled down? :|

Nope, that was an illegally ripped version, and it was all files, not even an installer. It was taken down in less than a week after some customers complained. Nevo (the company) didn't even know anything about it.

Yes, though we updated our post soon after we learned the truth.

The sad truth is that it can appear anywhere and anytime.
