<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.msmobilenews.com/page/1191/' target='_blank'>http://www.msmobilenews.com/page/1191/</a><br /><br /></div>MSMobileNews has posted some details on a Windows Mobile phone that could easily make you do a "double-take." While it's not certain when it will go into production, the engineers and designers of the Mago have gone to great lengths to put this thing together, that it would be tragic not to have this device in our repertoire.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/salgado-20060324-mago1.jpg" /><br /><br />Call it "the Vertu for the Windows Mobile platform," this sleek, quadband GSM device has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a 624MHz Intel CPU, 128MB RAM, 128MB Flash ROM, a 2.8" TFT LCD, and Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC (yes, I know they call it a Smartphone). Using <i>"advanced materials, hi-tech aerospace technologies and special scratch resistant coatings for housing and mechanical parts,"</i> the Mago is encased in grade-5 titanium, stainless steel, and magnesium, for a solid feel weighing in at 215 grams. A <a href="http://www.designet.ru/context/analysis/?id=3055">Russian website</a> shows some detailed technical information and more pictures of the Mago, including a comparison to the Qtek 9100 and a possible pricetag of 3,000 Euros! 8O Unfortunately, there's no mention of EDGE, UMTS, or HSDPA. Still a looker, though! What do you think?

I'm in love with the specs but visually I'm left with one impression...
It's tall & flat. Now that might be a good thing and maybe not. It's very clean and crisp looking. From my days as a bike mechanic anything titanium kind of gets a hook in me.
So how does this work will this thing hit U.S. markets? In a year? Months? At all?

Looks good but gotta have a slide-out keyboard. I'm spoiled after owning the MDA for a couple of months (yes, I was a beta tester). I can't imagine going back to a device without it!

If I'm not mistaken (and someone needs to do their research behind me), this is the first Windows Mobile 5 device with more than 64MB RAM.

The Benq P51 is also supposed to have 128MB SDRAM. This is good news, and at least some concession to reality. 25 MB free ram is just way too little these days.

If they are charging $3000 for this device it better have a 2.8 inch VGA screen.

If the three grand price tag doesn't kill it, VGA should. VGA on a 2.8" screen would be pretty much useless for most people with even average eyesight. ;) Plus it is extremely long.
On the positive, it has a decent processor and lots of RAM.

I think it looks nice but, it doesn't look like it would be that comfortable to hold.

Isn't this the PDA that everyone has been wishing for? Literally... For me, I have always wished I had a cellphone/PDA combination with a touchscreen...this works perfectly. Not only that, but it looks nice.

... and I thought my Toshiba e830 was a brick!
really - 215g for a device with a 2.8" screen. I thought titanium was supposed to be light.

215 g? The JAMin is 150g. It has less RAM and a smaller battery than this device, but it looks better imo.

Actually, this says 3,000 Euros which is about $3,600. I want a fully converged device: Phone, WME 5.0, GPS
Looks nice, but it won't even get a second look from me.

Typhoon, perhaps the Axia A308 is something you'd consider?

its good to see 128/128 on the memory. i guess that means its aimed at power user. seems like that should be the default configuration for everyone though. anyway, if they can make it (and include GPS and EDGE/UMTS,etc) for a decent price it will be a contender even with its interesting flat look.
