With full support for Windows Mobile 5, landscape mode, chat history, and its original features we have come to appreciate such as "push-to-talk" audio chat, this new version of Agile Messenger is sure to make its way into many mobile devices when it's finally released.

I, for one, am glad that there is continuing development for instant messaging clients on the Windows Mobile platform, especially now that America Online has released an open SDK for their AIM service. Why AOL has never bothered to update their own AIM client for Pocket PC is beyond anyone's guess. Our choices have been rather slim, such as the buggy Shape Services IM+ at a whopping $40, VeriChat with a $25 to $40 annual subscription, and imov Messenger (free Personal Version and a $20 Enterprise Version). Functionally and visually, Agile Messenger is the best of the pack (and right now, it's free), so please help be a part of the bug reporting team so they can get this out the door soon. :D

I've been running Agile 2.0 for quite a while. I got IM+ from a Handango giveaway in Dec 04, but I found Agile to be simple to set up and very powerful yet minimalistic. I never got a chance to download version 3.0 before they started charging. I'm always glad to see developement of Pocket PC applications. It seems that most companies, even Microsoft, seem to want to concentrate more on smart phones and tablet devices and ignore us as a user base.

I'm worried about security on this third part IM apps. Is sending your e-mail and password through a third party safe. Or rather how safe is it compared to someone just sniffing internet packets on a regular PC.

I've been using Agile for about a year now and think it's pretty good. I'm glad a new version with some new updates are coming along since the current version is starting to look dated.
Keep up the great work!

This is great news. I've been using the old free version on my X50v and it works very well. Glad to hear the project isn't dead. Hope the price in the end is reasonable.

Could someone elaborate on IM login password security? In other words does logging in over a third party application such as Agile Messenger or the like present a security hazard?
Thanks in advance for the help!

As I understand it, a client like Agile Messenger only serves as a manager for your existing IM accounts. You're not logging on to anything related to Agile; it's only acting as a manager for ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, MSN, or whatever you may be using.

Not sure WHY no one has taken a look at OZ Communications (http://www.oz.com/) about their Mobile IM program. It is used and accepted by Sprint, T-MOBILE, Cingular, etc.. Take a look: http://www.oz.com/customers.html .
Even though Sprint is a customer, Mobile IM is NOT on the 6700. Not sure why. My girlfirend has it on her MDA and it rocks and is very solid and easy to use. If she can set it up - anyone can set it up.
Just my .02 and maybe spark some commets.

I belive that one uses txt messages to IM. every time you hit enter you use a txt message. could get expensive real fast.

You give your username and pass to agile. Agile is a gateway server. They log you in, so yes, they do have your password/usernam. All the IMs are routed through them as well.
So it is a POSSIBLE security issue, but it's nto something I would worry about. I believe most jabber gateways work the same way. I have a secondary, less important account anyway for my pocket pc.
