Coded by XDA-Developers Forum Member <i>Water</i>, this little application can do all of the above and a bit more. I've been running it on my K-JAM for about a week now and can truly say it's changed my user experience. When reviewing the PPC 6700, I really got to liking the dedicated Start Menu &amp; Close Button, and now I have an acceptable solution for them on the K-JAM!<br /><br />Note: You must be logged in as a forum member at XDA-Developers to download the files from the post I've linked to.

I have been thinking about using the program for some time now. I was just worried about messing up my device. :)

But so many people are using it now it can't be too dangerous. ;)

Don't worry about it. ;)

Great little app definately brings a whole new usuability factor to Wizard devices.

I have found some issues with the way water has implemented the application close functionality. Some apps do not respond properly. I have found that Opera (beta 2) and Conduits PocketPlayer do not close properly using the right press-and-hold close method.

I posted these issues on XDA and water has responded that he would look into it.

I disabled everything but the right and left softkey remaping. Seems to work well. Except that when you exit the program you must reboot before the softkeys will function as normal. I ran into the same issue when mapping a softkey to a function in TCPMP. Seems that anything that overrides the softkey functions can only be undone by a reboot. :) No biggie though.. I will probably have it running all the time anyway.

One thing i did notice is that even when the scroll by page in the "Programs" window did not disable even though i have it set to 0. I can still page up and down in "programs".

Edit: Also i cannot disable the volume key override. I have it set to 0 as well but the volume key still does pageup/down. Maybe it won't be using this so much. :(

I've been running it for a few weeks with no problem with everything except the soft keys disabled. Make sure you have it installed to windows/programs. My ini file looks like this:

[MAIN]
LSKEY=1
RSKEY=1
VOLKEY=0
CLOSEAPP=1
STARTONREBOOT=1
VOLUMEONPHONE=1
REMOVEDUPSDDAEMON=1

I have a feeling it may be conflicting with pocket plus though, at least something I am running on my wizard is. Everytime in install it I lose the close button functionality within a day or so.

In case any one is wondering, this program works fine on the HTC Apache devices as well. :)

I have it installed on my PPC-6700.

I had it in "\program files\smartkeys" i also tried it from "\windows\programs".

Over all it works just fine the only problem i have is that ignores whatever i set VOLKEY or VOLUMEONPHONE to. No matter what i cannot turn the volume up or down from say Messaging or the today page, any program. Even with it disabled the volume slider is remapped. Same with PAGEONEXPLORE. Even with it disabled it still pages up and down with the softkeys in the "programs" window.

I don't think i am gonna use this app. I have the top two buttons remapped to start and ok/close anyway so i really don't need this app.. Especially if i can't get the options to do what i want.

Very cool app though.

I had the same problem. Here is what I did. Delete the program, reset your device (soft reboot, using the hole in the side) and then install the program back again. It has worked like a charm since.

No issues on my K-JAM with PP running and the close functionality active. As a matter of fact, I need to keep the close function active for the apps that smartskey doesn't close properly (Opera and PocketPlayer).

Well, unless your particular button mapper (like Vito)allows to map functionality to press-and-hold of the soft-keys, you don't lose the original function (single press) of each.

The default windows button mapper does not allow mapping of the soft keys.

The best function hasn't even been mentioned. I use it to overclock my MDA. Works great......

I installed it to \Program Files and it seems to work fine. But when I try to execute it on startup (by putting an alias into \Windows\Startup), I get an error dialog box to the effect that the certificate cannot be verified so the program cannot be run.

I used VITO Button Mapper for a few weeks. It didn't seem completely compatible with my Wizard though. For example, press-and-hold for certain buttons (comm manager, voice dial/voice record) didn't seem to work when VITO was enabled. Also, the VITO mappings didn't work when the keyboard was open.

When I read about smartskey over on XDAdev, I disabled VITO and gave smartskey a try. Works great! Simple, reliable, and free. Give it a try.

You dont have to put in that folder, when you run the program the first time, it will make an entry in the startup folder.
