I have a 3955 with a 1gig SD card. I have been copying some DVD's and have a couple of questions:

1) I takes a couple of hours to copy about a 1 hour show. A two step conversion through the software and then a process copying from the desktop (where I save them on the PC) onto the SD card. It works, but takes forever. The software is Pocket DVD wizard. Any ideas ? It was pretty highly rated but just takes forever...

2) I've experimented with different file sizes and no matter what I use,
the video is a little choppy. When I was saving at the 200mg size, the sound was off but the picture was about the same as it is now at 750mg.
(it gets compressed down so it doesn't actually take up that much room).

Do you guys think the choppy video is a software issue or does the ipaq need a memory upgrade ? I'm running windows media ver 9.

thanks !

First, dump WMP as your movie player - use TCPMP (http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about).

Second, IIRC a lot of these one touch convertors downsample the frame rate to 15fps. You might want to have a go at one of the more complex converters like Fairuse Lite (http://www.fairusewizard.com/) or PocketDivxEncoder (http://divx.ppccool.com/), which also have the advantage of being freeware. Be warned though, these take even longer to run.

I always transfer the resulting file through a card reader, as Activesync is bog-slow when doing file transfers.

HTH.

Yep, get a USB card reader if you don't have one, or get a USB 2.0 High Speed Card Reader if you have one but it isn't high-speed.

I have a card reader and will use that for the transfer. Will try the recommended media player as well.

I convert the vob files in my DVD, testing a few minuter before converting use this software:

I have a 3950.

This may be common sense - but two other things will help speed up video playback and prevent choppiness: a soft reset before you watch movies and also optimize your SD card that you are playing it from.
