I've researched this topic to death and even checked product manuals -- since I am not in this boat, I can't be sure my theories are correct. I am writing a how-to on:

How to transfer data from old PPC to new PPC device.

What to do when you get a new PC where your PPC syncs to.

How to transfer data from old PPC to new PPC device.

PIM data should be automatically picked up on first sync. Synchronized files can be moved automatically if you use the same device name, or they can be copied manually if you choose a different name. Applications will have to be reinstalled via Add/Remove Programs on ActiveSync.

What to do when you get a new PC where your PPC syncs to.

Just install ActiveSync, and synch as normal. The PIM data and synched files will copy themselves to the desktop.

That comes with being a writer of a column. Readers get in this situation and want to know. All columnists write about something they haven't done because we don't have the resources to make everything happen. That's what I thought the process was and had to confirm it was accurate as I don't want to report inaccurate info.
