I have a brand new Vodafone VPA IV (manufacturer's name HTC Universal) and I want to play H.264 videos (short videos, some 10-15 seconds) on it. The operating system of the VPA IV is Windows Mobile 5.0 Windows Media Player 10 was installed, but it doesn't support h.264.
I've been looking for video players that support h.264 and run on Windows Mobile, and i've found it quite a hard job. Could be that I don't know where to search. I've found this Nero Showtime Mobile
http://www.nero.com/eng/Nero_ShowTime_Mobile.html
and I've already installed it in the VPA IV. It works more or less well with a sample video that came in the VPA (.mp4, but i don't know which MPEG codec), but when i've tried to play my own videos (encoded with QuickTime Pro) i've found that the resulting quality is terribly bad. It's specially bad with h.264 (i've tried diferent different bit rates and frame rates), but it's not much better with what QuickTime calls MPEG-4 Basic and MPEG-4 Improved (I guess this is MPEG-4 SP /ASP?). Also, Nero Showtime doesn't reproduce the whole videos, only the first few (2-3 or so) seconds .
Could be simply that this Nero Showtime Mobile has very bad decoders, or am I doing something wrong? Maybe the bit rates I'm trying to use (60- 300 kbps) are too high for the player?
I don't think the problem could be the processor... Intel Bullverde at 520 MHz / 64 MB RAM That seems quite good, doesn't it?
I'd be terribly gratefull if someone could give me some answers, ideas, whatever kind of help. Do you know any good video player that can run on Windows Mobile and supports h.264? Thank you many times!
By the way, tis is my first post...don't be cruel with my ignorance.
