When my Axim X50V is not charging the battery is still going and the Axim dies and I have to reset from the beginning. Any suggestions, I'm dying out here!

Welcome to Pocket PC Thoughts. :)

All Pocket PCs consume a little bit of juice even in standby mode, though judging from your post, it sounds like it dies after a day, which isn't standard behaviour.

There are a few things you should check:

(1) Make sure Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi is off when you don't need it. These will suck your battery dry.

(2) The same can be said for a few card accessories. Standard memory cards can be left in the device, but if you have GPS card add-ons (or any other power-hungry accessory), remove it before switching off the device.

(3) Kill any background applications. Your media player, for example, may be running in the background without your knowledge. Tapping the X button doesn't actually close the application; it minimises it. If you tap Start > Settings > System > Memory > Running Programs, you can "stop" any applications you don't need. Alternatively, you can download a task manager which actually turns the X button into a real close button. A couple of examples are Magic Button (http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx) and Spb Pocket Plus. (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en)

If, even after all that, your device still dies within a few hours or a day, then your battery may be defective, and you should contact Dell to have it replaced.

Along those same lines, there are some media players (like Audible, etc.) that, for some reason, continue to run even when you've "killed" them using the methods mentioned above. So, whenever using any kind of media player, I'd recommend doing a soft reset after you're done. That way, you're sure everything's stopped running.
