<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://phoney.4t.com/' target='_blank'>http://phoney.4t.com/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Well I don't know about you but when i got my $1000/€900 I-mate JasJar last week I certainly wanted to do anything possible to stop it being stolen, So I came up with the idea of having a phone shell that has a bluetooth headset mounted inside so it doesn't appear that i have a JasJar, but instead a cheap old phone, in my case a Nokia 3330"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/ekkie_phoney_bt.jpg" /><br /><br />Ha! This is great, but is it genius or just self-defeating? The author didn't want to draw any unneccessary attention to his $1000 JasJar device. I can certainly understand that, but the fear that he really seems to be addressing is that using a BT headset somehow tips off thieves that you have a phone worth stealing (otherwise why bother?). I could see how a BT headset *might* draw some attention (though they are becoming more and more ubiquitous), so this could stem that curiosity. Of course, there is no true "hands-free" enjoyment here as you're now relegated to carrying a 2nd phone. I don't know. It's innovative, but is it useful? What do you guys think?

I would like to turn a pen into a bluetooth headset. Much cooler and more useful than this.

This is funnier than the article in the paper today about recyling dog/cat poop for methane reuse.

:rotfl: Oh my I hope this is a joke site some guy put together for fun! I think I'll buy a $1000 device with hands free bluetooth capability, and attach my Nokia 3330 to it as the headset! Yea, great idea. Big pocketpc phone device, and a big handset! At least he could have used the smaller Nokia 8260 series, Or maybe had fun and use an old N-Gage!

Wait, here in the states many places don't let you hold a phone to your ear while driving, you must use hands free. How does he explain this to the officer "sir its not a phone, its my bluetooth headset" "yea yea sure, what kind of idiot do you think I am buddy, like I can't see that's a nokia handset. Here's your ticket"

If not a joke, I bet this guy has a riced Honda Accord painted yellow with a trunk wing, lowboys, Blue LEDs and a coffee can muffler as well.

There is something like 2% practicality involved here. The 98% is a W?BIC! thing.

Cool article. I wouldn't make too much fun of the author. You would be surprised at how many ipods get stolen thanks to the obvious giveaway white earbuds. And ipods are worth only $200 on average. I carry a ppc (non phone) and a phone with me currently, so what he's doing is not any different.

You know I figured that out when I bought my first iPod about 3 or 4 years ago (1st generation). So I went out and spent aboput $40 on new (much better!) black Sony earbuds. About a year later there's an article in the paper saying how many people are being mugged in London for their iPods. Duh!

Guess I better start hiding my IPod earbuds under some nice garish earmuffs.

Faux lime green fur maybe? Or a throw back to 1970's with zebra!

I bet nobody would be able to steal his JasJar if he duct-taped it around his waist and only made phone calls inside phone booths (what a perfect disguise, that should really throw potential thieves off).

I just got back from the hardware store where I got my Honda key cut on a key with a Hyundai logo.

If I wanted to do this, I'd save several steps and just drop the headset into a shoe, thus creating a shoephone. ;)

Why not carry an old BT phone, in the same style as a cheap wallet with a few notes in it. If mugged, hand over the cheap phone and keep the JasJAr nice and safe!

Now THAT is a "Smart" idea ;-)

(Steve Carrell from 40 Year Old Virgin might be playing Maxwell Smart in an upcoming movie, fyi :) )

I sewed mine into an old pig's ear, thus making an earphone.

OMG I am so funny 8O
