Artak Abrahamyan , *Technical Support Specialist *from i-Mate, responded to my email requesting when they'd be releasing MSFP updates:<br /><br /><i>"Thank you for your email regarding the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (push support). We would like to inform you that it will be available as a free ROM upgrade for our Windows Mobile 5.0 devices on clubimate.com for registered users. We expect to make the upgrade available in upcoming weeks. Your patience is highly appreciated."</i><br /><br />Although I requested information about <i>which</i> devices would be receiving updates, he didn't provide that information. My hope is that it will be for all of the Windows Mobile 5.0 devices that i-Mate has released so far. Looks like we'll see this in early March. Hopefully it will come with some fixes for bugs as well - my Jasjar has been giving me a lot of trouble lately (more on that in another post).<br /><br /><b>UPDATE:</b> No surprises here, but when I asked what devices this would be for, they responded : <i>"...upcoming MSFP updates involve Windows Mobile 5 based devices, namely K-JAM, JASJAR, SP5, SP5m and JAMIN."</i>

Jason,

Funny we're on the same page... :) I asked the same question of my i-mate contact and got almost the EXACT same answer. Its almost as if the answer was scripted for us, eh?

I didn't post anything on pocketnow, because I couldn't get a firm WHEN from them...

Does that include AD2DP?

Does that include AD2DP? Only time will tell. Although A2DP is part of AKU2, it's up to the OEM to enable or disable some features - and it may not be present on the final version at all.

According to some of our tests, A2DP made a Prodigy crawl to a halt, while working ok on a Universal...

Yeah, a "confirmation" from i-mate doesn't mean a whole lot. We can hope, but I wouldn't put too much faith in it.

Do you surmise that the update will only work on i-Mate branded devices? I have a Qtek 9100, which is essentially the same as the KJam. I don't know if Qtek will release MSFP ROM update, so I want to see what my options are.

OK, this is a little off-topic, but I just have to vent...

Is anyone else irked by the fact that registering a new device on clubimate.com is free, but registering a 'second hand' device is $60? I saved a bit of money buying my K-JAM used. The previous owner won't respond to my requests for him to change his clubimate login to my info. Now news like this is released, and I'm going to have to pay the $60 registration fee to gain access to a free update?

Lame.

Are you serious? I've never heard of that before - do they have any Web references that I could link to? That seems insane to me...

This update could come at a very good time for me. I have a new k-jam on order through work. Hopefully it will be here in less than a month. Given the usual delays on these updates I should have about a week or so to install all of my stuff on the k-jam and see what breaks it and what works just in time for the update to come out. Then i can hard reset, update and then only install the apps i know work with WM5. :D

or knowing the way purchasing works around here my new k-jam might ship with the update on it already. :lol

The new user can re-register the device on the website at the following

That's some serious BS if you ask me. This is the response I got when I told them it would take a very large amount of discounts and freebies to make up for the $60 fee. I also told them that if it were a $30 fee, I probably would have just gritted my teeth and done it, which would have inevitably led to further sales from me. For $60, however, they won't be getting any of my money.

Do you surmise that the update will only work on i-Mate branded devices? I have a Qtek 9100, which is essentially the same as the KJam. I don't know if Qtek will release MSFP ROM update, so I want to see what my options are.

I'm guessing that unless i-mate includes something that checks the IMEI number of your phone to instructions that were imbedded in it when [the club imate member] downloaded the patch, it should work on the Qtek9100.

Don't quote me on that though. I'm basing this on the fact that every so often you see someone on eBay selling a "Qtek 9100 plus", which is just a regular 9100 flashed with imate's latest ROM (which I guess has a different Bluetooth stack and so forth).

It may very well be though that the patch won't work unless you already have an imate ROM installed...
