WM5 with ActiveSync 3.x?

I just got my new Axim X51 with WM5 (just charging) and I was wondering if I could leave my Active Sync 3.7 installed and use it?
Active Sync 4 doesn't do WiFi sync, but I'd like to use it if possible.
I have also heard that AS4 doesn't sync access databases any more - is that true?

So - I was just wondering if someone has tried ActiveSync 3.7/3.8 with a WM5 device...

Nope, unfortunately, that's not possible. ActiveSync 4.x is a requirement for Windows Mobile 5.0.

It's not really an ActiveSync 4.x limitation, but rather, a Windows Mobile 5.0 limitation - but you essentially have the right idea. Only devices running Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE and earlier support the synchronising of Access databases.
