Hi everyone,

Anyone who has gone to Aximsite will realize how much troubles x50v owners have with their Windows Mobile 5 upgrade. What's REALLY maddening is that Dell simply refuse to say anything, or even admit that WIndows Mobile 5 has TONS of problems. The system is EXTREMELy sluggish and almost unusable occassionally due to filesys.exe problem that exists ONLY on x50v with WM5. I know WM5 is not perfect, but there are just so much unacceptable bugs that exists on Axim only. Help us by signing this!!

Edit: Aximsite is temporarily unavailable due to a site upgrade, but here's the link to the petition:

After implementing a number of tweaks posted on Aximsite, I don't find WM5 to be unacceptably sluggish or anywhere close to unusable. It has (infrequent) intermittent slowdowns, but overall it's still faster then it was under the old OS. I wish that Dell would release a ROM update, but I have a feeling they won't because when they tried to do that for upgraded X5's way back, people were able to hack the update to get the upgraded OS for free, so they stopped doing it. If they do release an update, it would have to be by CD and that would be really expensive for them.

At any rate, not everyone is having catastrophic issues with WM5 for X50. So there must be some kind of complicating issue (CF card which I don't have, extra software, usage patterns, etc) that is compounding the problems. Ergo, there might be a way to remedy the issues you're having :)

You must be really lucky. I can't not multitask my PPC while filesys.exe is running without crashing the PDA. The device is just too slow, unbearable.

I haven't heard about this Filesys.exe, what is it?

Aximsite is down at the moment due to site upgrade, but here is the thread link. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?p=962753#post962753

It's a background process that deals with the flash on x50v. I don't really remember what it's for, but I believe it's kind of "defragmenting" the memory in background and scan and fix errors to keep the flash alive. It starts to run when there is some memory changes in the device.(ex. writing files) People on Aximsite believe that Dell didn't update the software properly for WM5, which causes the thread to run occasionally and takes up 100% cpu, thus making the system unusable. An unofficial patch has been developed by a member at Aximsite, but I still can't really solve the problem. This problem is found on upgrade x50v only.
