View Full Version : hx4705: do I need to reinstall the ROM update after a hard reset?

My iPAQ hx4705 was getting quite sluggish and it has been about a year since I last rebuilt it, so I did a hard reset. What I'm wondering is... does this wipe the ROM update too?

Cheers,

Nope the ROM update and the XIP's are in non volatile memory - thus ROM not RAM. So they will still be there.

You should be at a "Factory default" with the items in your IPAQ File Store and memory cards still intact.

I suggest you get a nice clean install then invest in Sprite backup. Then if you have to Hard Reset, or let your battery drain, you can simply restore your data and solid base system instead of installing each app and trying to find each registration code.

Thanks for the info about the ROM update.

On the other stuff, yes I know I *should* back-up more often, but I don't. My bad. :/ It certainly does take quite a bit of time to individually re-install and re-configure everything. I use a lot of third party apps and am very picky about how everything is set-up!

Thanks,
Jasmine

If you did this to get back some performance, then your best option is to re-install, and be a bit judicious about what you do re-install. Hard resetting and restoring from a recent backup, just gets you back the same sluggish PPC you had. Backing up is certainly good for inadvertant power loss (no longer an issue in WM5) and recovering from a less than cooperative new program, but house cleaning just needs to be done now and again and there is no shortcut.
