There has been a bit of confusion lately concerning the numbering scheme in HP's iPAQ hw6900 series. Hopefully, this post will clear all that up.

Seven models will be made available selectively in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific.

• The first two are the hw6910 (without camera) and the hw6915 (with camera). These will be sold in Europe under different languages - namely, English, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Russian.
• Next on the list are the hw6920 (without camera) and the hw6925 (with camera). These will be sold by Cingular in the United States.
• The hw6940 (without camera) and hw6945 (with camera) are generic English and French commercial versions that will also be sold by Brightpoint and Rogers.
• Finally, the hw6965 (with camera) will be available in English to most of Asia, and Australia and New Zealand. A traditional Chinese version will be sold in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Wow that is a lot model numbers for just one device!
Finally, the hw6965 (with camera) will be available in English to most of Asia so I guess this will be the one that I should be looking out for hehehe I wonder what the final specs will be for this model [or are they the same with all models?]

The hw6965 will be the same as the other camera-equipped models of the hw6900 series. Realistically, there are only two models - one with a camera, and one without a camera.

Will all of them have the same apps? I was thinking maybe some operators will put in some customizations in their versions of the device.

The generic HP applications should be the same. However, the GPS applications will differ - e.g. Pocket Streets 2006 (North America), TomTom (Europe), MapKing (Asia), Whereis Navigator (Australia), PaPaGO! (Taiwan).

Also, devices marketed by specific carriers (e.g. Cingular) will probably include some unique carrier content.

It seems like basically the same thing Compaq did when they first released the iPaq. Originally there was the 3630 and the 3650 (i think it was 50).

One was sold in retail outlets and the other was sold either through websites or tech suppliers like Tiger Direct. It was described to me as basically a really simple (and cheap) research method. There was also another one for the UK. But there were no functional differences between the devices.

Hmm... I've never had a phone that was branded by my own carrier before. This may be a first! But, as with all things post-classic iPaq, time will tell.
