PPC: IPAQ 2210, WM2003. Desktop: XP Pro SP1, Office 2003. ActiveSync 3.8

I use the Notes applet in desktop Outlook a lot, and sync the notes to my PPC. I notice that they are stored in the PPC in the \My Documents folder in main memory. As I have a lot of them, some large, that takes up a lot of precious main memory space.

Is there any way to move them to \My Documents or other folder on the storage card, instead of main memory? Of course I could manually move them, but I mean so they can still be read in the notes applet on the PPC, and so that desktop Outlook would sync to them in the new location.

Is there a registry tweak for that?

You can move them to the root or \My Documents on your card, depending on whether the latter directory exists and ignore_my_docs (see http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=356212 for more info) exists or not.

In order to sync these notes with your desktop PC, you'll need third-party tools; for example, the commercial MightySync ( http://www.mydocsunlimited.com/html/mightysync.html ) or the free MobSync ( http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=985 ).

Thanks again for your great info, Menneisys! :D

So, are you saying that if I move the notes already in \My Documents (main memory) to \CF Card\My Documents, the notes app on the PPC will read them there? But ActiveSync can't be hacked to sync to them there, one needs a 3rd party utility for the syncing?

I looked at the web pages for those two apps, and downloaded Mobsync, haven't yet installed it.

Looking at the web pages, it looks like they are both file synchronizers, synchronizing files between desktop and PPC, with better options than ActiveSync has.

The notes appear as separate files (.pwi) on the PPC. On the desktop PC, however, there are no separate files for the notes, they are part of the large outlook.pst file which stores all your Outlook data.

Therefore, it wouldn't simply be a matter of syncing .pwi files between desktop and PPC, as those files don't exist on the desktop PC.

Or will those programs sync Outlook notes from desktop to PPC, although they don't exist as files on the desktop? (I don't see that in the description of either app, although I might have missed it.)
