Hi all,

I just tried to order a hx4705 from London Drugs today and was informed that
the 4700 series was discontinued as of two days ago .

Can anyone confirm that this is truly the case?

I don't think any official statement is out, but it is possible. While the hx4700 seems well-stocked (http://pocketpcthoughts.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=3421195&search=hx4700&op[]=page,204,2&op[]=page,1891,1) by US resellers, HP's US page (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF02d/215348-64929-215381.html) doesn't list it. 8O

hp.ca (www.hp.ca) makes no mention of it either. Same with compusmart.com (www.compusmart.com).

I spoke to HP support today and they confirmed that it was D/C'd.

Indeed, as Janak said, HP(till now) has not made any announcements that it will be discontinuing hx4700 series. Its really odd to see that its not there on the US products page too.

More interestingly, HP has not even made any announcements of new hx4700 series(like X51V). There are no rumors too :(

But, HP can surprise us any time. Who knows ?

Yeah...

I saw that it was gone from the HP sites...like it never even existed at all 8O

My 5555 is slowly dying and I was hopiing to get a 4700 as a replacement. Now I have the dilemma of do I wait and see if a similar class machine is on the horizon or do I get a discontiinued model that *might* get the OS upgrade or do I go with the hx279X series.

Sigh.

Anyways, thanks for the replies!

I must be nit-picking, but, I guess it is 5555(not 5505)

Sadly, they are not showing the 4700...too bad, but Windows Mobile 5 is what they are selling so....you have to look at alternatives.

One is consideration of a refurbished device. I bought a 5555 years ago refurbished...it is still in use.

I saw the 4700 here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?category=refurb_handhelds&catLevel=3&storeName=storefronts&subcat1=refurb_handhelds&product_code=FA304AR%23ABA

It is worth looking at...it is a terrific device!
