I tried the antique (2003) version of MS PowerToys and the plus pack for Windows CE, but activesync wont let me install it.

I searched google until I was out of queries to try, so I came here. Does anyone know if MS is planning to update these two packahes for WM 5? Alternately, are there any tools that offer the same functionality that are either free, or reasonably cheap?

There are no official plans to update them as far as I know. PowerToys are unofficial by definition, so generally they have poor support.

Which functionality are you looking for in particular?

I would be happy with some WM5 equivalent of Tweak UI, but any kind of power-user tool would be nice.

Ah, if you're looking for a system tweaking tool, Tweaks2k2 (http://www.tweaks2k2.com/) (product page (http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=20050224182009983)) is probably the most extensive, although it's not free.

A free, but far more limited one, is RegKing (http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/applications/regking.htm). Note, I do not know about its compatibility with WM5. I believe it will work, but there may be unsupported aspects.
