I am having problems with AS and the XV6700 communicating but in this case I do not use Zone Alarm or any soft firewall other than that supplied with Win XP PRO SP2. The problem: When the device is inserted in the cradle, USB detects it but AS only keeps displaying "Connecting".

I believe that there problem is connected with Verizon's WirelessSync. Here's why:
1. Before Verizon's WirelessSync was installed/activated, AS worked fine.
2. After installation I started having problems.

The only way to fix this, that I have found so far, is to "Clear Storage" (from the program menu). The refreshes the device. Then AS will start working. Note: I first make sure that I delete the mobile device on the desktop AS.

If there are other things I should be considering, please advise. I would love to have both ActiveSync AND WirelessSync (email push only) work, but I am starting to have my doubts that this is possible.

Bill,
I spoke with both verizon (my carrier-really great) and with UtStarcom/Audiovox technical support and the bad news is AS4.1 is "disabled" by wireless service to avoid endless loop when device is connected by USB cable. You have to disable one or the other to make it work other wise wireless take priority - per UTStarcom techies.
Hope this helps
Side notes:
I got mine working, but with another PC - something to do with USB1, worked with USB2, even when using the cradle and longer USB cable -cool.
Thank God I did not have to reinstall OS.
Bill, thanks for you help.
Are you using any BT devices - headset, have you tried Voice command?I need advice on that too - thanks.

The wireless sync is the problem, but where I finally did was to disable all functionality of the wireless sync except e-mail at both ends – the online site and in the device. Then I enable ActiveSync within the wireless sync menu on the device and everything seems to be working fine.

The Verizon technical service person told me also that I should disable ActiveSync within wireless sync on the device but then this totally disabled ActiveSync for all transactions which I cannot afford. The way I did above is now working in both seem to be living in harmony. When I am on the road, wireless sync continues picking up my e-mail and pushing it to me – but nothing more. When I get back to the office, and cradle the device, it synchronizes all of the Microsoft Outlook items plus data from two other programs that are syncing to the desktop.

Yes, I subscribe to the EVDO data plan in order to try to emulate a Blackberry device by having this Verizon functionality push my e-mail to my device. I quickly learned after having wireless sync corrupt my outlook calendar, tasks, notes, and contacts to turn off that functionality. In that case the Verizon tech was right that if you want to use the full functionality of wireless sync, then you should not use ActiveSync at all. As I mentioned in the previous message, I cannot afford to do that. Furthermore, I do not see any added value to me to allow wireless sync to synchronize all other aspects besides e-mail. I can afford to get to my office in order to allow ActiveSync to do that.

Hi Bill,
I messed up some how, I was fiddling with connetion manager and turned on Wi-fi. Now and even after I turned off wi-fi and phone back on, my AS4.1 can not sync. I just get "Connecting" message but not get connected after awhile it times out.

How did you get wifi to fully "turnoff"?

HELP, what am I missing?

Thanks in advance,
Arlie.

Activesync 4.1 is flaky at times. There have been many times that I have had to delete the device relationship and start-over. I sure hope MSFT fixes these bugs.

So my suggestion is delete the device relationship - both from the desktop and the device - and let AS4.1 startover.

Bill,

did all, soft reset, hard reset, clear storeage, delete relationship (my wife about to do same to me) and uninstall and reinstall AS4.1

this prove to show never work on anything with out a beer first.
my fault - panic - it was a new firewall included in Trend micro's PC-Cillin.
hard lesson, but will remember for awhile. Switching to Vodka.

Bill, thanks for respond and info. I just hope my experience benefit other out there if they happen to stumble on this post.

Oh yah, I have MS Voice Command, not the greatest-I hope MS comes out with update for better functionality, and tried Moto BT 820 (giving it to my kids) was OK and set up was a breeze, will try 850 next.

Now looking for "Script" or some thing to add "NEW" like in old MS Window Mobile version.

Hi Guys,
I am new here, but not new to the ActiveSync/Wireless Sync problem.

If your phone won't sync at all anymore with activesync you will need to reset the phone with a hard reset. Make sure you do all your backups though. (I'm sure there is an easier way other than a hard reset, but this is the easiest way to get back to fresh settings.)

After you reset the device, before trying to activesync it, setup the wireless sync through verizon.

Then go to the wireless sync icon next to the battery and show the settings. From there you will have to enable activesync.

Then go into activesync and delete all settings there... Readd the device that you have just reset, but only allow it to sync the files. Nothing else, or it will give you doubles of everything.

I have run into a few problems with activesync not connecting after I have done all this, but while in the cradle, I just hit the top power button and the cradle relinks the connections and activesync runs fine.

The other solution is wait till Vista comes out... They have gotten rid of Activesync all together and are coming out with a new, streamline program that'll handle all of this connection crap for us.

I hope this helps.

Hi jamesmct,
I'm fairly new here my self, but welcome to club.
Thanks for the tips and info, yes most of the time hard reset is the ticket, it's just a pain having to reinstall every thing else one have installed and custom settings. It's a real pisser what MS have done to AS, I like 3.8 much better.
MS Voice Command is pitiful and cumbersome, I would have not paid money for that kind of product, if there was an alternative.
BT is cool no problem with Motorola HS820, I hear HS850 was buggy have not tried so can not confirm.
I like the xv6700, other than some draw backs, like volume level too low, i like the old version of picture viewer where you have thumbnails of all pics to pick from.
Can't complain so much, got to replace an HP Jornada 568, old brick cell phone and a digital camera, all in a resonable small package and look a lot better than the sprint version.
Enough said here, thanks and welcome to the group.
