Whenever I plug in my device to sync, Outlook opens up in the background and puts its icon in the tray. I didn't think much of it, but when I looked in the Processes of the Task Manager, I found that when my device is connected to my computer, Outlook is taking up a total of 76MB of ram, and every other process else involving ActiveSync and Outlook uses about 14MB. Now I don't think it's necessary to use almost a hundred megs of ram just to have the device plugged into my computer. It's constantly taking up this much ram whether it's in the process of updating everything or not. Is there a way to fix this? Does Outlook REALLY need to be open in the background the entire time my device is connected, or can I just make it open up only when I open Outlook myself? How much ram does everybody elses' Outlook take up?

On my Win2000 notebook my Outlook (2000) is using about 12 megs of RAM when my iPAQ2215 is connected. It runs around 10 megs when the handheld is not connected.

My Desktop machine (WinXP), Outlook (XP) uses close to 30 megs but the desktop machine is connected to additional IMAP folders and a few PST files as well. I do not connect my iPAQ to the desktop.
