I just wanted to share something with all you fellow owners of the coolest device ever. If you search around these forums you'll see posts from me complaining about ActiveSync never stopping and some other crazy problems with my PPC-6700.

Last night I stumbled onto the cure. Interestingly enough when I dock my PPC windows creates a network connection for it and gives it the 169.254 IP Address (stupid windows). ZoneAlarm Security Suite only has my LAN private address range in the trusted zone all others DIE PAINFULLY. I just happened to be looking in my ZA logs (I never do this as I'm behind one of the best hardware firewalls around.) and saw 169.254 getting blocked about every second or so.

I added that address to the trusted zone and suddenly my phone Synced right up and for the first time I could adjust sync options in ActiveSync (You cannot do this until your phone syncronizes and mine never has.) So this allowed me to fix a bazillion little annoyances.

So stuff this information in your back pocket it could prove useful.

Hi Rex,
I also use zone alarm (freebie).
I'm having a night mare trying to get my xv6700 detected by AS4.1 in my PC with winXP Pro SP2 using USB connection.
I have turned off windows firewall, zone alarm and norton anti virus 2002 right before connecting xv6700.
When I plug in xv6700, I get message "found new device...... device ready to use" then I see a network icon on the system bar and when i move curser it say "acquiring network info...". When I try to detect using AS4.1, I get message "device not detected or connected" something like that.
It's over a week that I have been trying to get this done and driving me batty.
Thanks in advance for any help you may share my way.
Arlie A.

Sounds to me like you went about it completely wrong.

Uninstall Microsoft Active Sync.

Download RegVac (just google for it) and run the trial in Novice Mode. It will clean up your now hosed registry.

Restart and run RegVac one more time.

Make sure all cables and your device are not connected to your PC.
Run the ActiveSync installer.
You should be asked to restart.
When prompted (and not until then) plug in the USB cable to your PC.
Make sure the screen is fully lit and active on your 6700.
Connect it to the USB cable. When prompted to connect device.
Should take about 10 seconds after that and pressing next.

If that doesn't work for you then you have other problems that will take a lot of tinkering to work out.[/list]

Rex,
I forgot to mention earlier that I used to have AS3.8 and HP jornada 568, it worked for years.
I have deleted partnership, uninstalled AS3.8 and rebooted PC before my first attempt on AS4.1 and xv6700 - that was last week.
Thanks again for your time and infos.

Just FYI -- the 169.254 assignment is by design. :?

Anyway, glad to hear you got it to work. :D

Oh yeah, I know that. I just wasn't looking for it at all. In fact it flew well under the radar to be sure. 8O

Rex,
I just finished going thru you suggestion, still AS4.1 can not detect xv6700.
I uninstalled zone alarm, rebooted and still no go.
All I can see is a new network icon in system bar , "Acquiring network...." then after awhile, "Status: Limited or no connectivity"
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Arlie
