I hadn't read anything about it so thought I would send you a note. It is in essence an O2 Atom but with HP firmware and in a silver case with a 6500 style plastic fold back screen guard. It has: Windows Mobile 5, tri-band GSM with EDGE, FM radio, 2.0MP camera, Bluetooth (with A2DP &amp; AVRCP support), iRDA, 802.11b &amp; Mini-USB 1.1 port. Memory: FlashROM 128MB, RAM 64MB. This is a real product and from what I hear is due for release in April '06."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060116-HPQuanta.jpg" /><br /><br />Mr. Anonymous at Mobility Today claims to have seen HP's version of the O2 Xda Atom. According to him/her, it's been tagged the iPAQ hw6800. Between the two, specs are essentially the same; even tri-band support stands. It was <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=45679">previously reported</a> that the device would feature quad-band support. Do take it all with a grain of salt. We'll endeavour to get you finalised specs in the near future.

Hmmm... HP has been sliding off the inovation path if you ask me.

I guess the Logo would be more fitting if it said:

"HP Rebranding!"

Because there there's nothing "inventing" about this rebranded model.
Way 2 Go HP :way to go:

Why is HP dragging their hills on the RAM? :twak: Quit milking us of our money and give us a justified expense.

if they could fit a keyboard on there instead of just changing the color and adding a cover, it would become an amazing and innovative device.

Adding a cover will be great if they did.
Adding a GPS chips will be perfect.

Without quad-band, it doesn't really differentiate itself from the what's out there right now.

"HP Rebranding!"

HP has gotten way too slow in releasing devices. By the time this is released (April), O2 will no doubt have a better model available.
The fact that it will still be tri-band is also a deal breaker for me.
Do they really expect people to wait 4 months to buy the device from them, when you could easily buy it right now from O2? Oh, wait, it has a screen guard? That changes everything!

To be released in April? Like on April 1?

There appear to be a few important items missing from this device:

- No HSDPA capability; only EDGE. This is unfortunate, as Cingular will provide significantly higher speeds that EDGE by later 2006.

- No Quad-band capability.

- Poor construction from some reports, including a loose battery cover and cheap plastic shell.

I'll stick with my 4705 and Audiovox SMT 5600 until HP and/or Cingular come up with something better. From the looks of it, this won't happen in my lifetime.

&lt;sigh> I miss the days when there were actually engineers and designers working at HP. Apparently they stopped innovating the day they changed their slogan to "Innovate". Typical.

Meanwhile, I love my HTC Wizard! iPAQ who?

However, they forgot to specify 2006, 3006, 4006, maybe they will pin it down a little closer by Christmas.
