View Full Version : Looking at customizing a X51v....
I just had a preference question. Which of the three battery options is the best for an extra battery?
1100mAh Second Battery
2200mAh Second Battery
Socket Mobile Power Pack
Just getting an idea...might buy it soon.

The best option really depends on your needs. Do you mind the bulkiness of the 2200mAh? Do you mind carrying a 2nd 1100mAh that you'll have to change more often? The socket will give you tons more capacity then the other two and would be best if you travel on long airplane flights often. So, how will you be using your axim?
To give you another example, I have an x50v and have considered these same issues. The 1100 doesn't have enough capacity for me. The 2200 is too bulky and wouldn't fit into my navigation cradle in my car. I don't want to change batteries everytime I use the navigation system. I'm seriously considering the 1800mAh (http://www.lionbattery.com/description.php?noproduit=237) battery from Lion Battery. The downside is the hefty $50 price tag. The good side is that it only protrudes 2.3mm from the rear, meaning it will fit most regular size cases and will probably fit my car cradle.
Another idea comes from Radio Shack. It's called the Pelican Power Brick. For $20 you get a battery like the Socket Mobile Power Pack but at a fraction of the price. This has been discussed in detail at Aximsite as well.

At twice the size and less than half the capacity. Didn't go look at what's been discussed at Aximsite, but I'd wonder about using a device that is designed for 3.6v on an Axim that wants 5v or better.

According to everyone who has measured the voltage, they all say it's at least 5v. Nobody knows why the sticker says 3.6v. Several of us have tested the unit and found it to work. You must only buy it from a reputable place like Radio Shack or Best Buy. Do not buy it online from Ebay. There are 2 different models floating around, one slightly larger than the other. They're identical other than the size difference. Radio Shack will exchange it if you have a problem. They are a stand-up company.
