Ever wanted to turn your Pocket PC into a virtual input tool to remotely control your desktop or laptop? With <a href="http://www.aacompserv.com/AACompWeb/Modules/PPCTablet/WhatIsIt.aspx">PPC Tablet</a>, you can. I've been using it since it was first released back in 2004, and now with <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,45772">v3.0 just out today</a>, I dig it even more. PPC Tablet supports multiple editable profiles allowing you to remotely control media playback, create signatures and sketches, remotely control a PowerPoint presentation, and much more. Oh, and all this over encrypted connections. :)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060119-PPCTablet.gif" /><br /><br />Amorphous Media Design has kindly offered five copies of PPC Tablet Remote Control Suite 3.0 to give away, each valued at $14.99 (each copy includes the desktop server, mobile client, and profile designer). To take part in the contest, all you have to do is post a message in this thread discussing how you'd use PPC Tablet. Myself, I use it to control media playback in iTunes and Windows Media Player. I also use it as a remote control when delivering PowerPoint presentations.<br /><br />Remember, only one post per person. The contest closes on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 5:00PM [GMT -7]. After that, I'll randomly select five winners from the thread. Good luck to all of you!<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> The contest has closed. No further entries will be accepted.

I wish I was eligible!
For me, I'd use it with my Tablet PC (coinciding nicely with the name of the product). There are times when I'm using my Tablet without the keyboard attached but I'd occasionally like the ability to hit certain keys easily (like DEL when I'm reading email), or Enter or Tab. Having my PPC with this tool running nearby would be pretty slick.

Definately for controlling music on my computer which has my entire library. I also wouldn't mind testing it out with Powerpoint although i generally don't need to use it very often.

I'd use it to control the various media players on my media server. I currently use NetRemote Music (http://www.promixis.com/products.php?section=netremote)and MediaBridge2 by Promixis (http://www.promixis.com/) to control iTunes. It's a nice app, but it's not entirely reliable.

This soft looks very promising! I commonly teach using dynamic presentation prepared in PDF. I would definitely appreciate this tool for the presentations instead of staying sticked to my mouse during the course (especially with the short beamer cable of some teaching rooms where I must stay close to the wall :-) thanks to the smart equipment department of my university!)...
Also, my hand is sometime aching if I use too long the mouse. I ask myself if this tool would not allow me to use my finger or the stylus intead of the mouse... That would relieve my pain.
That would give another advantage to the 4 inch screen of my HX4700 ;-)
So I think it would be quite busy with me :-)
Best regards,
Murat

That's pretty slick! I think I'd primarily use it for the tablet functionality - for drawing and drafting. Many times I've wanted to have a tablet for my PC, since the old ones I do have are too old now to use anymore. I haven't been able to justify purchasing a new one, but this looks like it could do the job fairly well for a lot less cost. Sure my X50v is much smaller than the average tablet, but it beats nothing at all!

I would use it to remote control the laptop I turned into a digital picture frame that's hanging on my wall.

I would use this great program to help me take control of all the media I have on my computer. I'd watch movies and listen to music from the comfort of my couch. I'd also love to wirelessly control all other aspects of my PC so I'd love to have a copy of this program. :D

I teach secondary Maths and ICT in the UK. I would love to be able to use this with my Tablet PC and Intereactive Whiteboard! That way not only would I be able to write on the screen and the board I could also wonder about and write on my PPC too!!!
Afterall you can never have too many places from which you can control your computer!
Seriously I would use it to control Powerpoint presentations, Some dynamic Mathematics software like Autograph which can be used to vary graphs etc...
I also occasionally show Videos and radio programs in WMP, and controlling this whilst sitting at the back of the room keeping an eye on them would be very useful...
The abilty to control all of these from my PPC would not only be useful for me it would really confuse my students!!!

I'd use it to control my media player while I practice my drums on the other side of the room. Its such a hassle to get up all the time and this sounds like the perfect tool to aid my practice sessions.

The touchpad functionality seems great! I don't have a separate dvd-player, so it would be great to turn my ppc into a remote when we watch dvd's on my laptop.
Oh boy, I really think I deserve to win this. Just because. :D

Right off the bat, I think I'd make good use of the trackpad. I have a Glidepoint on my main PC, but can't justify that on occasional use PCs that already have mice. This would allow an easily moved trackpad on any networked computer.
I think I'd then also set it up for media player applications and as a powerpoint controller.

I work for a criminal justice agency that provides information systems to law enforcement agencies in our state. Our largest police department currently has over 1400 notebooks (mostly Panasonic Toughbooks) deployed in their cruisers and we are working with them on a project to incorporate identification services via a handheld PDA device that would connect to the notebook via bluetooth or a Wi-Fi ad hoc connection.
PPC Tablet might be useful to the officers by allowing them to interact more effectively with their notebooks without having to use them in their mounts (which can be awkward) or remove them to use them on their laps (which can also be awkward). The PPC and Windows Mobile won't completely replace the notebooks yet, but could be an effective complement in this situation. I would use a copy of the PPC Tablet 3.0 to evaluate that potential.

I used the trial to lock my computer. See, I'm a foster parent, so have lots of little ones from 0 to 14 years old bashing on the computer. Often, I need to remotely lock the PC to prevent data loss, but I can't be bothered outrunning the kids to the dining room at the back of the house.
I also use it for logging when I get home. A quick press of the right button, I'm logged in.

So - I would definatelly use it for controling my Media Center and Beyond TV.
Also I guess using it as tablet for drawing stuff would be cool too.

I'm sure I'd use it in two different ways.
First, I would use it to eliminate the bickering that goes on between my kids as we travel. I'm a big proponent of using the laptop to watch dvds while traveling. The only problem is that my 11 yr old in the 3rd seat is always yelling at her 5 yr old sister in the 2nd seat about not being smart enough to properly run the movie on the laptop. This program might just save my 11 yr old's life.
Second, I would also use it for powerpoint when making presentations to prospective clients. I simply hate those crappy remotes that come with projectors.

01-20-2006, 04:19 AM
I would primarily use it as an extension to the keyboard. I always use a laptop (haven't used a desktop [eve at work] for over a year!). As default I guess it would serve as a numeric keypad. But after goofing around a bit, I'll probably be using other of the great functions increasingly.
Please let me have a copy!!!

I am a high school science teacher that LOVES her Dell Axim! I would love to use it to remotely control my powerpoints in class (it helps cut down on distractions whe I can walk around AND I could be at the board working problems and not have to go all the way back to my computer in the FAR corner to get to the next slide - and I am not going to let a student sit at my teacher computer). I am sure I cold find all sorts of other extra-curricular activities for it too! -

To be quite honest the possibilities are endless, but the practical applications extend to;
- Presentations
- Over the Air Wireless Music Control
- Create customisable scripts to automate specific tasks while I'm physically away from the specific computer I'm trying to control.
My particular scenario is;
Run an automated script on PC "X" using PPC "Y"
which opens FlashFXP to connect automatically to my Xbox over wifi and bang, I can go and copy all my media straight to XboX, essentially my homebrew MCE.
- and of course annoying my sister at random intervals, muahhhahaha.
