Funny,

I've never used this particular product, but it seems to have been a mourned hero in the customizability front since I started searching for Today plugins.

It seems to be a direct competitor for PocketBreeze and SPB Diary. Sounds like theres going to be a Today war in the works.

If I recall correctly, PIToday predates both PocketBreeze & (definetly) Diary. The only reason I ever switched from PIToday to another product was the lack of integration with other components (Spb got me since I already used Pocket Plus) and lack of mail support (Which is why I now use PocketBreeze).

Good to see this product back in action!

It does. I think PIToday lost a lot of business because development on it stagnated for a long time(I'm pretty sure PIToday is just done by one developer), and SBSH was putting out updates every few weeks or so.

Though I'm a fellow SBSH fan (as a PocketBreeze, PocketWeather and sometimes iLauncher user), it is nice to see that DeJe is back with PIToday, as competition never hurts. Not that I'd ever switch from PB.

(and no, I don't consider Diary as a competition....it lacks too much features of PB and its customization)

I used PiToday and sung its praises for a long time. I finally got frustrated with DeJe's disappearance and lack of support so I jumped to Diary.

I love it and like the way it integrates with SPB Weather and Pocketplus. Now if SPB releases a stock plugin for Pocket Plus I'd be all set. In fact, with all the problems Omega One has - sure they patch but they still have problems even now, I'm very happy I dumped PiToday and all my Omega software except 1-calc.

I don't know if DeJe was sick, burned out or what. But in this business he will have a hard time gaining the popularity he once had. It rang too much of Toshiba - put out a solid product then never support it and don't update it for a long time.

I wish him luck, but I won't go back to it, never know if he may decide to go off on another hiatus.

Geez! - just checked his official home page for PITODAY (http://pitoday.de.vu/ ) its still dated 2004 and shows the old rev only.

PIToday was a great product; when Deje disappeared and we didn't hear anything AT ALL (not even, sorry I'll be back in 12 months  ) from him I lost faith - I won't buy/upgrade to this version as the developer's track record would indicate it isn't worth the risk  .

Anybody tried this "new" release?

Screen shots show the date Nov 1st, 04.

OTOH since the program seems to be from a single developer, he was most certainly primarily busy developing the program, then releasing it, then in the next days he will take time to update his site and partnering pages...

I installed it today...but having not used PIToday since its VERY early stages I wouldn't know what has been truly updated. In any case, I am checking it out...seems to work pretty well. I am always very cautious of Today screen plug ins, I seem to suffer performance penalties when I run them.

I fully agree to you sir. Even I'm very careful when installing today plug-ins. I love using pocket breeze(before that I was a SPB Diary user). Pocket Breeze gave so many custamisations and my whole system also seemed little faster. I would like to read the reviews of such an application. I'd definately buy it, if it offers more features than Pocket Breeze. Yes, it looks nice, but, I'm more leaned towards real world performance

I used PIT Today in it's very early stages, and I loved it. I have since dropped PIT in favor of SPB Diary. DeJe didn't seem to care about PIT Today once he took your money, in fact if you had a problem with the software or with your serial number, well good luck to you.
DeJe good to see you back, but for how long? Will you grab the money and run again? :?:

Does anyone know what the upgrade policy is? I purchased and used version 2.05 - will my key still work with this version? I can't see to find the product site to get more information - only one of the sales sites. Does this support WM5?

Same question one upgrade.

Use dto like PIToday - but that seems to be ages ago - with bitter memories of dropped support. Use and like PB now.

I definitely won't even try it unless it is a free upgrade.

I've been a PIToday user for a long time and would welcome an update to the version 2.x I'm using now. However, it seems strange that Deje's website does not mention this version, nor does Handango carry it. The linked site only lists price in Euros...

His "official site" is http://pitoday.de.vu/
But of course its untouched since 2004. Personally, I would update my site before sending a new revision off to my distributors. His "official support" site was a forum on WebIS's forums run by Alex Kac. Alex dropped DeJe's forum after no response for a long time from DeJe. This after Alex supported the product strongly, sharing code and sharing his development time with DeJe. If DeJe at least came onto any of the many forums that discussed his product and said anything, anything at all; "I'm sick; I'm raising my children; I'm burned out..." But nothing, in over 18mos not a peep except some third party commentaries that he'd be back in a few months, and he never was back.

I have no idea why anyone would go to this product. Unless of course Sado-Masochism is your ilk and you support/own a Toshiba E7x0. (same lack of support and care for the customer).

In its day it was a solid, nicely thought out/integrated package for PI. I *might* try it out if Alex picks it back up and there is some assurances of support - maybe Alex should buy it as a plug in for PI. But, until then, no way. Screw me once, shame on you; screw me twice, shame on me. I paid for it, I sung its praises, I hung on for 8 mos - I dumped it.

Ok, just saw Sofatater's comment - perhaps this is a scam/hack and not a real version update - the screenshots are of the old version. Anybody download this? Or perhaps Handango won't do business with him now?

FWIW, I'm still using the good ole PIToday on my VGA screen.

FWIW:

I noticed yesterday that Handango had the old version, but PocketLand has version 3.0.1.017. At least the installer displays this version number.

ALSO the zip file I downloaded from PocketLand has TWO *.exe install files named
PIToday_Setup_WM2003.exe
AND
PIToday_Setup_WM5.exe

So it likely supports WM5, tho I haven't tried that one; I installed the other one related to my device (Axim X5 with WM03).

Since I haven't tried a recent previous version I dunno what the enhancements are from version 2.x.

Just FYI - I believe Deje did have personal issues he had to take care of and that's why he dropped support. However I can honestly say I have not gotten a single email answered from him since he released an updated in early 2005.

So while I would be happy to see him back on his feet working on this I personally would be wary of buying anything without some assurances of support.

Support is very nice to have. I jumped on Ulti-Planner because it was inexpensive and yet functional. The developer promised an update around April of 2005, but has been wrapped up with other projects and hasn't released an update yet. I jumped ship to PI, which has had 4 updates since that time. I tried a demo of AF, but after using PI for a while, I uninstalled AF that same day. It just wasn't for me.
