Embeding jpeg in email???

Im trying to embed a picture in my email where it comes up in the middle of the email instead of a attachment. Example is if any major department store send you a ad if you look at it its a .jpeg embeded in the email and the jpeg is actually on their server (just right click on jpeg and click properties) well im trying to do the same thing with gmail and i cant do it. Can anyone help me out with this one????????

Compose the email like you would with a webpage (ie. using the < img > tag).

i did ie www.whatever.com/cool.jpg ....... but thats all that shows up on the page.... that same sentence.... and no picture :(
