Amal Graafstra, a 29-year-old entrepreneur who is starting of Web hosting and managed computing products firm called Morpheus Inc. in Bellingham, Wash., gained international exposure earlier this week when he and his girlfriend were interviewed on CNN about their RFID implants. Graafstra, who said he spends much of his time in Vancouver, discussed how he can use the RFID chips in his hands to automatically open his front door, his car or to log onto his computer.

I kinda think this is cool. I mean, my cats all have chips, so technically they are more advanced in the gadget world than I am.

I could see using this instead of a password for my PPC, unlock my car and home, etc. Security could be an issue, and I'd hate to have this done then have someone nuke the chip.

Cool factor notwithstanding, there is a bigger picture regarding privacy issues and Big Brother knowing your every move and whereabouts and purchases and what not.

This all sounds a bit Deus Ex (http://www.deusex.com/)-ish. If you've played the game before, you'll know what I mean.

Awww... c'mon. Deus Ex was a great game! I didn't think it was a geekish post at all.

I think the Big Brother comment is a bit over the top, unless it was totally a joke. What Big Brother? I couldn't be bothered tracking the post location from the Lat/Lon, but wow something has incited paranoia there.

I don't believe it will be too long before we can print a semi-permanent RFID on the skin; well, print the antenna and glue on the chip. Great for stuff like travelling on public transport.

Except Big Brother would then know where we've been and where we are going, so I'd have to give up my life of crime and sedition.

I'll be going to the US this summer to visit relatives and apparently I'll be getting some kind of RFID embedded document when I arrive in the country. I wonder if there is a control room somewhere in an underground headquarters where I'll be a little dot on a screen moving around as I visit tourist attractions in SC. :D
