Could it finally be here?<br /><br /><i>"Cobalt is a blue screensaver with a lot of shading effects! The sequency is never the same - a shade generator mades it possible!</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2006/20060113-cobalt.gif" /><br /><br />Well, I have admit, that is not the GUI I was expecting. I wonder if it can multitask?

That's just cruel. A little respect for the dying, perhaps?

Ha! You know what's really funny? I'll bet the developer of this app is wondering why his software is getting so much attention.

You know what? That's probably the funniest thing I've seen all day. The idea that anyone can release a screensaver like that which I had on a 286 back in the oldern days cracks me up. The fact that it's for a Palm, to me, is symbolic... Old platform... Old technology... Old screensaver...

Seems appropriate... :soapbox:

- Jennifer Chappell, Technology Editor, (NC, US)

One would think Jennifer took one of those TOEFL courses, 'cuz her English is atrocious for a "Technology Editor" based out of NC, US. I doubt very seriously Jennifer graduated from any of the local colleges here, because with English like that, they would have flunked her.

No guys, c'mon, it'll prevent screen burn-in on those Palms. You see the cathode rays are projected forward onto the back of the screen from...

Hmmmm...

Let's see...

Site's called PocketPC Thoughts...

People poke fun at the inane competition...

That's bias?

Okay. Fine. We're biased toward Windows Mobile. Considering this is a Windows Mobile community, I'd say that's an expected angle, huh?

And it's not like Palmies have ever shown bias, right? (See Pogue's past writings for some fine examples of open-mindedness, or perhaps Kirvin's.)

Hey, we're not at all biased - we even have a forum here for a Palm product now, and I'm sure we'll be open to any Palm device to be released*

But seriously, the person at CES's Palm booth said that cobalt WILL come out eventually.

It's not a dead horse... I'd say its a horse in a coma.

Not likely. Whom was it that told you this? Unless those words came from the lips of Ken Wirt or Ed Colligan, I don't buy it at all. It makes no strategic or cost sense whatsoever. Basically Palm would be adopting an OS that is already slated for obsolescence, with a shelf-life of just a few more months in the PalmOS timeline. PalmLinux (or whatever it is destined to be called) will arrive sometime this year (internally) and will ship on devices next year. That being the case, why would Palm incur the development and support costs from adopting an OS that isn't going to be viable for much longer? It would make more sense, from a fiscal standpoint to continue with the Garnet until PalmLinux arrives.

It's not a dead horse... I'd say its a horse in a coma.

Only Cobalt's APIs will survive. The OS itself is dead.
