Hi,

I am looking for expense-tracking software that allows me to:

A - define my own categories of expenses;
B - categories must be hierarchical and this hierarchy must be used in calculating the totals: that is, I want to be able to check the total for Food and get both subcategories Groceries and Dining Out automatically included in that total.
C - run it on WM5

I checked a number of titles, but none seems to have A, B and C:

Spb Finance: doesn't have A, I guess?
KeepTrack: doesn't have B.
MSMSMoney Lite: doesn't have B, I guess?
WebIS Money: doesn't have C.

Any other suggestions? For those who know it, I used QuikBudget on the Palm and was very happy with it. That's the sort of thing I am looking for.

Thanks for your help.

Rodrigo

Spb Finance has "A". Select Menu > View > Categories > New to define your own categories of income and expense.

Also, check out ExpensePlus from WalletWare http://www.walletware.com and WorldMate from MobiMate http://www.mobimate.com.

However, finding one with hierarchical categories is difficult. You may be able to use an export template to Excel that will do your desired roll-ups.

I use PocketExpense Pro by ScaryBear Software (http://www.scarybearsoftware.com), but I don't think it has hierarchical categories.

Inesoft's Cash Organizer (http://www.inesoft.com/eng/index.php?in=premium.htm)

It has hierarchical categories, and you can custom define to your heart's content.

I believe you could set up what you want, including hierarchical categories in ListPro. It's really an amazingly flexible piece of software which includes arithmetical functions. I have set it up to do time tracking for billing. Works like a charm.

Thanks all for the replies.

hishamh, I like Inesoft, thanks.

dragonhand, nice hint. :-) Since I already use ListPro all the time, it sounds like I should give this a try.

Having taken a look at Inesoft's Cash Organizer, Pocket Quicken also comes to mind. You can set up hierarchical categories. If you use Quicken on your desktop, you can then create reports which utilize these hiearchical categories.
