View Full Version : Full backup (so I can hard reset and get back everything) on WM5

I am wondering what is going to happen if I need to hard reset my PPC, or if it breaks and I need to get a new one and restore all programs, data and configurations to it.

The regular file synchronization offered by ActiveSync doesn't seem to be enough, for the system files are not being covered by it. It would seem silly to add *all* files to the list of sync'ed files because regular synchronization would become very slow. Besides, I am not sure I would be really able to restore everything if I need to, since some files have special functions in the system and may not be rewrittable.

From googling around I see lots of references to a backup function in ActiveSync that seems to have available for older versions of the OS, but not available for the WM5.

So my question is: is there a way to do a full backup of a PPC running WM5 so that I can restore everything after a full reset, or everything to another device?

Thanks,

Rodrigo

From what I've read/seen, only Sprite Backup fully supports WM5.

Looks like Sprite Backup does not work with WM5:

sprite do have a beta available at the moment. It seems to work fairly well, but does have a few glitches. Check it out here:

Sunnysoft have a backup solution for WM5.0. It too is a bit flaky in spots, but they both are worth using.

There's also a beta for Spb Backup. Works well in Windows Mobile 5.0.

Cool deal, looks like there are more choices out there.

Even if it was working, Activesync backup is not recommended - it usually baulks at restoring to a hard reseted machine, which makes AS backup a bit of a joke.
