I want to listen to files that have the extension .wav but appear to be encoded in ccitt u-Law format. Is that possible on a pocket pc?

Specifically, I get my vonage voicemails by e-mail. It sends them as attachments in a file. I have no problem playing them on my computer. But my Pocket PC (Treo 700w running Windows Mobile 5.0) cannot play them.

Any idea how to fix this so I could simply play the attachments directly?

Answered my own question: the free program TCPMP plays these files (http://corecodec.org/projects/tcpmp/). It's a nice unintrusive program and supposedly does a good job playing video, but I haven't tried that yet.

Thank you for posting this information. I have added your discovery to the Pocket PC Media Players table.

I guess as a side note...why do phone companies use this format? It SUCKS! Is there not a format supported by WM that is 64kb 8Khz mono?

what's a 4155 and how come he/she can play them? Can mobile media player use extra codecs if installed on the device?
