Some time ago, I upgraded Winampaq, without first uninstalling the older version,. The new version then failed to work, so I uninstalled it, but reinstallation also no longer works. I think some remnant of the old version must have remained on my iPAQ (in the registry, or equivalent?). I would now like to install a yet newer version of Winampaq, but want to "clean" my iPAQ, first, How can I do this, without doing a hard reset?

Welcome to Pocket PC Thoughts.

One way is to research which files WinamPAQ installs on your device, sniff them out and manually delete them. They'd usually be scattered across the \Program Files and \Windows directories, so already, you can probably imagine this being quite a mess. You'd then need to download and install a registry editor and delete all references to WinamPAQ (you'd have to enter WinamPAQ as your search string, and then manually delete each entry).
The other way is to try a "cleaning" program such as MemMaid. You can set it to perform a full system scan/clean and hope that it automatically sniffs out all redundant WinamPAQ program files and null registry entries and deletes them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There's a free trial version if you wish to give it a go.
Either way, I'd backup your device first, just in case something catastrophic occurs. If all else fails, then a hard reset is by far the easiest solution (despite the annoying follow-up manual restoration procedure).

Once you have that off of your PDA I would leave Winamp alone and go for one of the better players like MortPlayer or GSPlayer which are both free.
