I don't know...to me, it always seems like they get the best PPCs. What do you guys think?

Pocket PC emulator? What do they mean? Isn't this going to be running Windows Mobile 5? That's like buying a new computer with XP but having a Window ME emulator built in.... What's the point.

It runs the base Windows CE platform, unlike Windows Mobile which is a piggyback OS of sorts.

I don't get that at all! Why would any OEM market a "Pocket PC" without running the Pocket PC SW on it?? And then sticking a PPC emulator on it -weird or what !!!

The BM-200 is a smartphone, but which uses Windows CE instead of Windows mobile, Sybian etc. That's why it is an Off-Topic post here.

No, very sensible. If you buy one you can use PPC software, as Windows CE software is thin on the ground. (Though of course you can hack PPC software, as shown in the Windows CE forum (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=56)).

Well isn't Windows CE, in a sense more powerful than the Pocket PC OS since it doesn't have any of the limitations that the PPC has or the mandates by which Microsoft instructs how programs should function for PPC or Windows Mobile? Of course there's more software for the PPC platform, but if I recall from my HPC days CE came with an Access like program which was nice to have and was more "true" to a windows experince which I would guess from a development point of view would offer a bit more freedom on how you wanted your apps to work with out following the shell design of Windows Mobile or PPC.

Bingo. That's why some OEMs prefer WinCE. It's a lot more customisable. I'd debate the more powerfull, as PPC is WinCE, with extra bits added.

Of course there's more software for the PPC platform...

Yes, the WinCE Achilles heel......

Darius - et al! I am quite aware they aren't marketing it as a Pocket PC - but it WILL be perceived by most as one - hence the reason for the inverted commas. I still dont get why anyone would want to market such a beast and no one here has explained the benefit to the consumer as to why such a best would be released without PPC but include an emulator to allow PPC SW to be used - still seems nonsensical - why not just make the bl@@dy thing a Pocket PC! Flawed concept IMHO!
