Got a new PDA and couldn't find any best freeware or top 10 freeware posts when searching so figured its time to start a new one. There is a ton of free software out there now since I've last used a PPC (around 2 years ago). Any recommendations you guys offer would be greatly appreciated!

Great idea!

I've only been around for a couple weeks, but so far I've found:

PHM Regedit: http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
Handy Shopper: http://chrisant.home.comcast.net/hs3/hs3ppc.htm

Regedit is a great free registry editor, and I found Handy Shopper to replace "Splash Shopper" that I had on my Treo. It both seem to work pretty well so far.

Oh yeah, anyone with media on their home computer should use http://www.orb.com

I've been using it with my EVDO connected 6700 and my SageTV system at home, it's absolutely amazing.

I agree, great idea :) My two favorites are:

Claunch, a tabbed program launcher and
GSPlayer, plays mp3/ogg/wave

But I also like:
InOUtThings-keeps track of lent or borrowed items
pkCalendar-small instant monthly calendar
Pocket Griddler-logic game
AlienRat Canfield-card game
Peter's Gambox-eight different little games

Most of these can be found at either FreewarePPC.com or PocketPCFreewares.com along with several other great programs :)

You've got to try total commander 2 (freeware file explorer) and TCPMP (the most versatile media player).

ORB looks amazing.

Gotta second TCPMP and PHM RegEdit.

Also add eBook readers. My favourite is MS Reader.

Another one is www.freewareppc.com.

It seems like 90% of new software products for PDAs these days are all related to Sudoku. I don't even know how to play, and I don't want to learn - I have enough vices already!!

Have not done this in a long time... but here goes.

For a reader I like UBook... no longer free but you might still find an older version available.

cTide for tide tables...

As mentioned... Total Commander, GSPlayer, and TCPMP.

MDictionary...

OzVGA for Vga devices...

psSHUTXP

Skype

Hitchhiker

Wifi Graph

MagicSS (screen capture)

and I almost forgot Wififofum... have not used it in a long time since it does not support vga.Thats my short list... all free all pretty good pieces of software.

gsplayer (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/) is a good mp3 player, and Noterrific (http://www.rudism.com/) is a good list program w/a desktop complement.

For PDA desktop themes try http://www.pocketpcthemes.com/ . They have more themes to look at than you can shake a stick at.

My favorite mp3 player is MortPlayer. The car menu has nice big buttons that i can use my finger to press instead of trying to dig the stylus out and then tap on the appropriate location on the screen (do you really want to see me on the road, behind the wheel of a Chevy 1500 Express playing with my PDA 8O ?).

I have to agree with the choices above, and add:
- ADB Idea Library (excellent organiser of ideas & tasks)
- nPopw (email program)
- tAgenda (superb, summary of appointments, tasks - even though I have PI (a highly rated commercial application) I still find tAgenda indispensable
- Yishin's powercheck (battery, memory & screen-off)
- GSFinder+ (file explorer)
- Calc98 / ACEIT calculator (both are very good)
- Booklib (list manager for books that can be used for CDs, DVDs etc)

And I use 2 excellent non-expiring beta programs
- Minutes of Meeting v4
- Nicestart (adds an XP shutdown, plus password protection at start-up)
