Hi,
I have a problem with installing new 2 gbyte chip into I-mate jam.
When I insert it the system asks me format or no. No matter I press YES or NO it ends in a few seconds, but still no new volume is seen by the system.
Please tell me if there is some software needed, or some kind of hardware problem?
thansk in advance

It depends on what software you have that is prompting the format, but in short, you will need to have it formatted prior to use. Do you have a card reader connected to your computer? You can format it that way by opening it up in My Computer, right-clicking the drive, and selecting Format.
If not, there are some formatting products which run locally on your Pocket PC. An example is CNetX Flash Format. Spb Pocket Plus also enables a formatting option in File Explorer.

I'd go with Darius' advice first - though I'd only use onboard PPC formating as a last resort. Formating on a PC appears to result in a more stable FAT.

Hi
thanks for replies.
I formatted it with card reader. The PC can see it as a normal volume, but the pocket PC anyway does not react.
P.S. as you told about some other kinds of formatting utilities. Where can I find them
thanks a lot

At this stage, I'd start thinking the card is either defective or not compatible with your Pocket PC. Can we have more information please? Like is it SD or CF, what model of pocket PC you have, what's the brand of the card, and which model etc.

Hi,
1) I think that card must not be defective, because It can connect to PC without any promlems with card reader (read, write, format)
2) The card is "Extreme Technologgy" brand. Secure Digital Card 2G
SDC-06.
3) The pocket PC is I-Mate JAM
thanks

Than we're left with the possiblity that the card and your PDA are not compatible - this has been known to happen. Is there anyone else you know with a Pocket PC, who could test it out for you? Do you have any other cards that do work with your PDA?
