Hello,

For a time now I've had to hard reset my device due to ActiveSync  . I'm using the latest from Sprite Backup and every time I restore my device I try to sync with ActiveSync and for some reason when it tries to sync it creates an error and "Must Shut Down...Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you." 8O Normally, I would have to hard reset my device and then re-install ALL of my programs  ! What is the matter? I back up every night religiously at 11:59 p.m. thinking that if something like this ever happened again that good old Sprite Backup would save the day and ActiveSync would recognize everything and again life would be bliss. Can ANYONE tell me what the problem is? I'm so tired of having to hardreset my device and reinstalling ALL of my programs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync 4.1, so I tried that route too. ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Even email me at pixiedust4us@tampabay.rr.com if you can help!
Thank you!

ActiveSync 4.1? Are you using a WM5 device? Sprite Backup currently doesn't support WM5. (They just released a beta with preliminary WM5 support.)

If you're using a WM2003(SE) device, you should really be using AS 3.8. 4.1 *should* work the same but they've changed some things which might cause problems with the backup solution.

I would think 4.1 would be more effective. My device is the HP hx4700, still a WM2003SE. But this has happened with AS 3.8 as well. Any more suggestions?

Are you using the the HP Protect Tools? I had a lot of ActiveSync problems, along with my device not turning on and booting up quickly. I was getting a variety of errors. I took the Protect Tools off and have not had a problem since. I don't like the idea of not password protecting my device, but I couldn't live with the sluggishness and ActiveSync problems.

BTW I am using an Ipaq 2750 w/2003SE.

Microsoft does NOT recommend using AS4.x with non-WM5.0 devices. Besides you lose wifi sync with AS4.x, which is a pretty big deal to me.

No, unfortunately not. I say this because if I could solve this issue with a click of an option that would be great. My device boots slow due to all the configurations I have, but my biggest complaint is the fact that hard resetting my device every other week is becoming more of a chore than I bargained for.

I have not heard that. But thank you for the input. I am deleting 4.1 as I type this and will be reverting back to 3.8 as Janek and you've mentioned. I've been back to 3.8 before and some of the same issues remain, but I don't want to continue to delve into troubled waters.

When I deleted 4.0 to revert to 3.8 I found I had to delete a USB driver that had been installed too in order to fix all the issues introduced by 4.0. Not sure what it was called, but it showed in Add/Remove programs so should be easy to spot if you still have it there.

pixiedust4us, i have a hx4700 as well. I used to have the same problems as you, not being able to activesync and had to hard reset to get it to work again. This happened over and over again until i realised it was because of something i erased from the ppc.

Do you use any registry cleaners? Like SKTools or MemMaid. If you choose to automatically remove broken registry entries, your activesync is bound to break.

I don't think its your Sprite that's causing the problems.

Also AS 4.0 did not work for wm2003se devices, but 4.1 does. I am now using it to sync 4700 as well as my new ppc phone Dopod 838 which is wm5.

Hope this helps.

Merry Christmas to you all.

I did not see this driver in 4.1. Perhaps they removed it? I appreciate the information; however.

Swampy,

Yes; I use MemMaid and PocketMechanic religiously. I have this obsessive compulsiveness about myself that I have to have every unused file deleted. Do you know which one (file or key) that is deleted that does not enable ActiveSync to work? If I did a complete backup of my PPC before everything went awry shouldn't the file restore itself with the Restore feature and thus still enable the ActiveSync to function properly? This is still odd to me. I would think that even if MemMaid deleted an important Key or File that Sprite should restore it and thus keep everything on an even ebb and flow.

:D me too, I do have OCD when it comes to cleaning. Its kind of a bad habit when i don't know what I'm doing. I used to checkbox all and delete everything in Invalid entries and values until both panels are empty. :(

---

After a hard reset, load on SKTools and nothing else and run the Invalid Registry Entries. You will find a bunch of entries which have a long string of gibberish (like this: {24khaf7689gfg67-2354-afdhafk-252445})

I think these are really important and shouldn't be deleted. Some of them yes, if you think they are really unnecessary, generally i left them.

In Invalid Registry Keys, you will find a few missing keys too. Particularly:
\windows\adoxce31.dll <--- several entries
\window\msdoasp.dll
\windows\PrEngineCE.dll <--- several entries
\windows\Devmgppcsync.dll <--- not sure about this, do u have this?

I left these - I found if i deleted those above, my activesync wont work. Currently on my 4700, i have those 4 above and i can sync (usb and bt).

----

Much of it was discovered by trial and error because i have no technical background in pdas, although i have been using one (palm and wince) for several years. The amount of tears i've shed over activesync - i can completely understand your frustrations - which compelled me to suggest it was a registry cleaning issue.

Yes, Sprite does a complete backup of registry. I'm not sure what happen to you there. Perhaps if you backup a fresh hard reseted 4700, restore it and try activesync, does it work?
