The voice quality was so good on the M3500 that we gave it our Editor's Choice award. The only thing seemed to have slipped Plantronics' mind with that headset was in the style department. The 27-gram M3500 felt heavy and looked large on anybody's ear. But come this year, Plantronics released a new generation of Bluetooth headsets that cut down on weight and size, but increased style and usability. Among them, the Plantronics Discovery 640 Bluetooth headset leads the pack with a very lightweight, comfortable to wear design and great sound quality you've come to expect from a Plantronics product."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/ekkie_plantronics_640_kit.jpg" /><br /><br />Okay. That may look like some sort of miniature firearm set, but I assure it's a headset. I can tell you personally that I recently purchased a Plantronics Bluetooth headset having gone from the original Jabra BT100 to a SonyEricsson HBH300 to my current Plantronics Discovery 510. Perhaps it's just the maturation of technology, but I found each to be noticeably better than the last. So did Plantronics get this one right? At $149, it certainly isn't cheap. Check out the review to hear Tong's opinion on their newest creation.

BTW, a little searching and you can find this device discounted approx. 30% (eg. CompUSA) - I like mine as it works equally well with my Magician, Razr and Uniden phones.

I had the opportunity to try this awsome device from a friend that works for Plantronics and it's really incredible how it performs on all the phones I've tried it.

I really recommend it to anyone looking for a Bluetooth headset.

TIP: The gel tend to loose it's "grip" if you tend to store the headset in your pants or jacket pocket because it attacts lint and particles like a magnet, so the next time you use it (without the loop) it feels really loose in the ear, so what you need to do is simply wash it in tap water (just the gel) and air dry. It will be like new!

Happy holidays!

BTW, it fits real loose in its holster (the metalic tube with the pocket clip) so be careful where you bend forwards if you carry it clipped in your shirt pocket (like any respectable geek): it likes to inconspicuously slide out.

I purchased this unit last week and ended up returning it because of the following reasons:

1. Feels loose in the ear with and without ear loop.
2. Falls out too easily from shirt holster. (almost lost it in the ToysRus parking lot)

3. Makes ear sore after all day use.

4. No USB adapter to charge it (comes with adapters to work with other cell phone makers)

5. Not form fitting to face. (Sticks out and easily can be knocked out)

I ended up replacing it with the new Jabra BT-500 which features USB charging and 240 hour standby/8 hour talktime.

Can I use this headset for VOIP on my PPC after pairing? I would like to use this headset for my PPC and my Blackberry bluetooth.

BTW, Plantronics offers two accessories for this that allow charging via a USB connection:

#69519-01 USB Charging Cable (a cable with the default Plantronics male power plug on one end and a standard size USB-B connector on the other)

#70393-01 Mini-USB Charging adaptor (looks like the included silver barrel adapters and charges off a mini-USB plug such as the Motorola Razr charger)

While Plantronics doesn't mention these in their advertisements, they are noted in the user manual ( http://www.plantronics.com/media/media_resources/literature/user_guides/discovery640_userguide_en.pdf;jsessionid=LX0DEY52KUQSWCQBGNUCFEYKAEZWSIV0 )

I believe they cost approx. $10 USD each (I can let you know after I order them).
