Hi all, just 'discovered' (actually, finally got around buying a memory card) that I can watch videos on my pocketpc, and as I commute through train every morning, I am happily converting videos using Windows Movie Maker to the pocket PC full screen format.

Question: is there any utility, preferably freeware, that allows me to do this in 'batch' mode? Take these bunch of files and convert them all, individually, into pocket pc WMV files.

Thanks all,

Juan Miguel Venturello

Dunno, but I've been using pocket divX encoder to batch convert tv shows and movies. Works like a charm, and has a zillion options to tweak the conversion so you get your best compromise of file side, video and audio quality etc...

Ahhh... EXCELLENT!!

Thanks for the link, this is just what I was looking for. The PC app although a bit ugly (who cares) does just what I need, and is easy to use. The PocketPC app works very well, video is SO MUCH FASTER and of nicer quality!!

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Well just about any video editor(say video edit magic) gives you batch conversion

Personally, I'm a big fan of WinAVI (http://www.winavi.com/), because it allows you transcode from basically any format into any other format, in batch mode.

A free alternative is just to use Windows Media Encoder 9, but its support for input codecs is limited to what can be played in WMP, and it only outputs in WMV.

I also recommend the free VirtualDub for batch conversion.

Yes, VirtualDub is nice. But, IMO, it is too complex for the new and naive users  . I would still recommend the pocketdivxencoder (http://divx.ppccool.com/) for new users.
