These are still beta versions, not the final. I've been running 1.2 for several weeks, however, and haven't had any major propblems.

Why two versions? Sould you run the .91 with faster CPU?

One version is for PPC's with 400 Mhz or faster processors...
The other is for slower processors...

Yes but why? Do you *have* to choose the faster one if your processor is 400MHz or higher? If you don;t will your PDA blow up? What do you gain?

I have to try this. The last few versions of Skype have been hopeless on VGA machines - locking mine up totally.

Right - it is still beta, but an updated one to the earlier beta that was released a couple months back. Also, it's worth noting that these beta releases have completely replaced what was originally on the Skype for Pocket PC download page (i.e. the older v1.1.x releases).

I'm not quite sure what's so trivial about this. The development team have stated that 1.2.089 is for 400MHz+ CPUs, while 1.2.091 is for <312MHz CPUs - clearly, the latter has been optimised for the slower processors. I think if you attempted to run 1.2.091 on a faster Pocket PC, you'd see no gain. Of course, if you wish to experiment, do so at your own risk.

I played with them both on my XV6600...which is 400 Mhz....I didn't notice any difference... I plan on doing a hard reset, and only loading skype to see if there is an improvement in start up times for that program... It doesn't always seem to load when I click on the icon, I'm wondering if it is an issue with some other program interfering.

I guess you meant important, not trivial ?

Anyway, the point is moot. I tried both. Neither will launch on my E830. No error message. No process running. Not even a bleep.

Skype is still not working for me on PDA :-(

Oops, I had a Sunday brain freeze there. Typing one thing and thinking another. You get the point, anyway. ;)

I used to have a similar issue, back when I was using my X50v. A soft-reset seemed to solve it. Have you tried that?

I was able to install the "slower processor" version of Skype on my Qtek 9100 and got it to run, however, my phone was experiencing so much stutter in it's daily use, I uninstalled Skype. I don't know if it was Skype that was making my Qtek slower, but it was the last program I installed before things started acting flaky.

Can any other HTC Wizard owners comment on this?

I just installed it on my qtek 9100. It seems to work (which the previous version didn't) but the audio is broken up and the delay is about 1 second (over local wavelan). Not very useable for audio.

Chat works but for each new message the text scrolls up to the top showing the first few lines :(

I cannot see any improvement for VGA devices. Still both user interface and icons are fuzzy and bad looking. For example Dial TAB icons or interface.

Also I just noticed that the device (Qtek 9100) did not turn off while Skype was running.

Of course.Installed/uninstalled a couple of times, with soft resets after install.

Okay, Skype seemed to work fine on my XV6600, when it was the only third party program loaded.

But after loading MS voice command, Spb Pocket Plus and Verizon Wireless Sync, Skype once again doesn't want to launch without a soft reset.

Since I mainly use Skype while at home from my PC, I guess it's not that big of a deal...but it would be nice to get my Skype voicemail (which I use for product support calls and sales related questions.)

I think I will try Orb's new voice mail for Skype...it's free and stores the voice mail on your PC. Then will email the voice mail to you and text you at the same time...It's not perfect, but at least I won't have to carry my laptop around to get my voice mails...

In my experience, Skype will not load on the Pocket PC if ActiveSync is running.

I suggest anyone with any bugs or feature requests submit a report here (http://forum.skype.com/viewforum.php?f=13) - to my understanding, they're working on ironing out any issues by the time the final v1.2 is released.

Hi,

I've tried it today with JasJar over UMTS network with great results.

Posted a small review: http://headworx.blogspot.com/2005/12/skype-at-large.html.

Cheers,
