Stowaway BT mouse - Cannot use Rechargeable batts?

I found that the Stowaway BT mouse won't take rechargeable AAA batteries - it seems it uses a voltage that is relatively high for 3V device.

Is there a workaround this issue? The batteries don't last terribly long if used frequently.
